In tonight’s episode of Coronation Street, we’ll see Audrey Roberts walking in on her daughter Gail (Helen Worth) and former fiancé Lewis Archer kissing and of course, she’s horrified by it!

And not least because it was Gail’s meddling that caused her and Lewis (Nigel Havers) to split up after she roped Gloria Price (Sue Nicholls) into trying to snare Lewis into a honeytrap.

And while speaking to Soaplife this week, Sue Nicholls, who of course plays the smitten hairdresser, has revealed that even when Lewis (Nigel Havers) seems to have returned to his old scheming ways, Audrey still wants to be with him.

So much so that she’ll even agree to flee Weatherfield with him when he confesses that a woman he previously ripped off for thousands of pounds has caught up with him, and she wants her money back!

Sue began by saying, “Audrey doesn’t care what her family think – she loves Lewis, he loves her and that’s all the matters.”

As fans of Coronation Street will of course know, stressed out businesswoman Audrey Roberts had a heart attack last week…

And today, The Sun report that Sue Nicholls, who of course plays Audrey, has learned a lot about the causes and symptoms of a heart attack, and that she was surprised to learn that heart attacks are the biggest killer of women in the UK.

Sue and the show’s writers consulted closely with the British Heart Foundation in order to portray Audrey’s heart attack in a realistic manner, and they were happy to help in order to raise awareness about the issue.

69 year-old Sue Nicholls, who of course plays Audrey Roberts, has revealed to Yours magazine that while she’s quite happy to kiss her on-screen lover Lewis Archer (Nigel Havers) she has no intention of featuring in any “steamy” bedroom scenes.

However, she also revealed that her husband, Mark Eden – who played the role of baddie Alan Bradley in Corrie – isn’t bothered about her kissing scenes, and particularly in view of the fact he’s done a fair bit of smooching on the show himself!

Aristocratic Sue – whose full title is The Honourable Susan Frances Harmer Nicholls – said, “Subtle screen kissing is fine, but I wouldn’t like to do bed scenes any more, thank you.

“I think the kissing is best if it’s just nice, gentle kisses and hugs. I’ll leave the snogging to the youngsters.”

While speaking to the show’s official website about her forthcoming storyline – which sees Audrey Roberts having a heart attack – Sue Nicholls revealed that she hopes her portrayal of the potentially life threatening coronary comes across as realistic.

Sue also revealed that she’d been given guidance on the realities of how a heart attack affects women by the British Heart Foundation and a real life sufferer.

She explained that she’d met with a specialist cardiac nurse, who helped her formulate how Audrey would react to the symptoms of the heart attack.

She said, “The nurse told me all the ins and outs of what a heart attack is and I spoke to a lady who’d had two heart attacks. I will be thanking them both.

“I’ve also got a huge file of info from the BHF, which I’m reading through.

As fans of Corrie will know, Audrey Roberts has been battling with her grandson David Platt to get her salon back – she of course signed it over to David last year to ensure he avoided paying inheritance tax is she shuffled off to the great salon in the sky…

But now she’s been reunited with Lewis Archer (Nigel Havers), and believes he’s genuinely in love with her, not her bank balance, Audrey wants to liquidate the salon’s assets to provide cash which would pay for a round the world luxury cruise.

However, David (Jack P Shepherd) egged on by his ambitious – and somewhat money grabbing – wife Kylie (Paula Lane) and protective mum Gail (Helen Worth) has refused to sign the salon back to his gran, and has even changed the locks and taken down Audrey’s name on the sign outside… Read more & comment »

Smooth as a cashmere codpiece conman Lewis Archer is once again trying to woo wealthy widow Audrey Roberts (Sue Nicholls) but according to Nigel Havers, who of course plays Lewis, this time, it’s because he genuinely loves Audrey.

As fans of the show will recall, when Audrey met Lewis, he was a male escort and con artist who made it his goal in life to part as many gullible ladies of a certain age from their savings as possible.

And though he didn’t actually steal from Audrey, he did of course steal from Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne), using besotted Deirdre Barlow (Anne Kirkbride) to do so.

However, after Audrey and her daughter Gail (Helen Worth) met up with Lewis by accident in a pub last week, he later showed up in Weatherfield again, to pay back what he owed to Peter and to take a smack in the mouth from Deirdre!

He also had Audrey take him to the police station where he handed himself in and confessed his crimes, but will all that have been enough to convince Audrey that Lewis is a change man?

Sue Nicholls, who of course plays Audrey Roberts in Coronation Street, has revealed that a fan of the show potentially saved her life by spotting a cancerous mole on her shoulder.

Sue – whose full title is The Honourable Susan Frances Harmar Nicholls – was alerted by the show’s nurse, who told her that an eagle eyed viewer had emailed the show to say Sue should have the mole checked out.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Sue said, “One of the nurses told me a viewer had emailed to say they had noticed a mole on my upper left arm and suggested I should get it checked out.

“My first reaction was, ‘Oh, how sweet’. I hadn’t noticed it getting any bigger and it didn’t hurt.

It has been two years since screen icon Rula Lenska bounced on to the cobbles to form one half of the comedy double act that is ‘Aud’ & ‘Claud’, but now, due to other acting commitments, the star is leaving weatherfield.

It seems that Corrie favourite Audrey Roberts – played by Sue Nicholls – is set for a ‘Shirley Valentine’ style storyline which will see the popular character exit the show.

According to the Daily Mirror, Audrey is going to jet off to Greece with her male escort lover Lewis – who’s played by Nigel Havers – and she won’t be back.
