Michel Hazanavicius’ almost completely silent film The Artist won Best Picture as well as Jean Dujardin winning Best Actor for his role as early movie star George Valentin and Hazanavicius himself won Best Director. In addition the film won Oscars for its Original Score and Costume Design. Martin Scorsese’s Hugo set in a Parisian train station also took home five awards for Cinematography, Production Design, Sound Editing, Sound Mixing and Visual Effects.
