Last night saw The Big Bang Theory finale pip the finale of American Idol to the top spot, but only by 400,000 viewers.
It wasn’t a winning night for The CW meanwhile as the finale of The Vampire Diaries and Beauty and the Beast ended up at the bottom of the overall table.

Ricky Gervais is to bring back David Brent, his popular character from The Office, for Comic Relief.

Comedienne Catherine Tate is to reprise her role as Nellie Bertram on the US version of The Office.
NBC made the announcement yesterday, and the show’s executive producer – and cast member – Paul Lieberstein, said, “Catherine is hysterical. We introduced her briefly in last season’s finale and knew she had to be a part of the show somehow.

51-year-old James Spader has landed a role in the US version of The Office. He’ll play Robert California, a character he portrayed in the finale of season seven, who was interviewed for the Scranton branch manager’s job.
Robert is the CEO of the parent company, Sabre-Dunder Mifflin, which owns the paper and office equipment suppliers aas depicted in the series which is run by the departing Steve Carell character, Michael Scott.
The show’s executive producer Paul Lieberstein told TV Guide magazine: “James will reprise his role as Robert California, this uber-salesman that has a power to convince and manipulate, like a high-class weirdo Jedi warrior.
“James has an energy that is completely his own, and ‘The Office’ has no tools for dealing with this guy. We’re thrilled he’s joining our cast.” Read more & comment »

Steve Carell has reportedly shot his last scenes on The Office.
The TV funnyman has played Michael Scott in the NBC “mockumentary” since 2005 and received the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Television Comedy Series in 2006.
On April 29, 2010, Carell announced that he would be leaving the show, despite earning approximately $175,000 per episode and co-star Rainn Wilson has revealed that he shot his last scenes last week, writing on Twitter:

Ricky Gervais has will make an appearance in an upcoming episode of the US ‘Office’ series.
The 49-year-old funnyman (who caused quite a stir at last week’s Golden Globes ceremony) will reprise his role as David Brent from the original British version of the programme – depicting the everyday lives of employees at a paper company – and will be shown meeting with Steve Carrell’s Michael Scott in an episode to be shown next Thursday in the America.
Executive producer Paul Lieberstein – who also plays beleaguered Human Resources representative Toby Flenderson – told NYMag.com: “It’s a little more than if you blink, you’ll miss it, but if you don’t set your TiVo right, you’ll miss it.

Star of 24, Kiefer Sutherland, has revealed that he’s a fan of both Coronation Street and The Office, the UK version that is.
In an interview with the Radio Times, Kiefer explained that he’d lived in the UK with his parents when he was a child, and began watching Corrie then.
And when the family moved to Canada, he continued to follow the stories of the Street.
He also revealed that he loves the UK version of The Office.
He told the magazine, “I love it, but find it very difficult to watch – especially when I see myself in David Brent and think ‘I’ve done that’.” Read more & comment »

Star of The Office, Martin Freeman – who played Tim Canterbury in the comedy – has revealed who his “dream dinner party” guests would be, and one of them is Jesus!
Martin also conceded that his choice of dinner guests might be those of his The Office colleague, David Brent.
Martin, who also starred hit romcom, Love Actually, told the PA, “At my dinner party I’d have Stan Laurel, and it might sound so David Brent, it’s embarrassing…
“But for me… Jesus, Ghandi, Martin Luther King.

One of the stars of the US version of The Office, Angela Kinsey, has admitted that she’d love to have Ricky Gervais star in the American show.
Angela, who plays Angela Martin, added that although Ricky had visited the set of the US show, she’d like him to actually appear in an episode.
She told the PA, “He’s been able to stop now and then and it’s great for us. We’re such big fans of where the show started so I hope so.”

Jack Black has singed up for a guest appearance on The Office’s big Superbowl episode in 2009.
The “Kung Fu Panda” and “Nacho Libre” star will play himself in the hour-long “Office” episode, which will run after Super Bowl XLIII on Sunday, Feb. 1.
The episode will be titled “Stress Relief,” and will follow the office drones as they try to secretly watch a bootlegged Hollywood movie at work.

This week on The Office, Michael, Dwight and Jan head to a major office supply convention in Philadelphia.
After meeting Jan (Melora Hardin) in Philadelphia for the annual Northeastern Mid-Market Office Supply Convention, Michael (Golden Globe winner Steve Carell) enlists Dwight’s (Rainn Wilson) help in organizing a party in his room for fellow conventioneers.
Meanwhile, Ryan (B.J. Novak) and Kelly (Mindy Kaling) join friends out on a double date. Jenna Fischer, John Krasinski, David Denman, Leslie David Baker, Brian Baumgartner, Kate Flannery, Angela Kinsey, Oscar Nuñez, Phyllis Smith and Paul Lieberstein also star.
