Silas, who was a very powerful witch before becoming the first and most dangerous vampire over 2,000 years ago, was imprisoned for 100′s of years by fellow witch Qetsiyah after she discovered his plan to turn a love interest into an immortal to be with her.

The Vampire Diaries will soon be back (yay) and we cannot wait to see how season three’s cliffhanger plays out at the beginning of the fourth run.

At the end of the last series, Elena died in a car accident but then she didn’t, as due to an earlier injection of vampire blood, the heroine returned as a vampire herself.

Of course when she comes round she isn’t exactly sure what’s happening and in the new promo clip released by CW, the stunning brunette asks her brother lovers Damon and Stefan ‘am I dead?’ before the reality of the situation dawns on her.

So when The Vampire Diaries came to an end last month, Elena sacrificed her own life for Matt’s, but one question on fans lips ever since has been did she know she had vampire blood in her system and would survive the car accident?

The brunette beauty was travelling with her long time friend, when their car careered off a bridge and into the water below and when Stefan finally came to the rescue, she insisted that he save Matt first.

As a result Elena died, or so we thought, but it turned out that when she had been treated in hospital in a previous episode, Meredith (Torrey DeVitto) had injected her with vampire blood and therefore guaranteed her immortality. The last scene of season three saw Elena coming back to life in the hospital mortuary.
