Holby City: Sharon D Clarke Could Be A Doctor For Real!

Holby City BBC OneHolby City actress, Sharon D Clarke, better known as Dr Lola Griffin, thinks she may just be able to handle a medical procedure in real life after her experience on Holby.

She told Whats On TV

“We do something a lot called a tension pneumothorax - it’s when a person’s lung has collapsed and we have to stick a long needle into the chest cavity to relieve the pressure,” explains Sharon, who is also well known for playing the Killer Queen in musical We Will Rock You.

“We do that totally correctly, and I’d say that’s the thing I’d be most confident doing in real life if it happened to someone in the street. I’ve done it so many times in the show - we have medical advisors on the show who make sure that we’re doing everything correctly.

“People watch the show and sometimes stuff happens in life and you remember something you saw on the telly, and you go for it. It’s subliminal, isn’t it, it all goes in. If you’re a fan and have watched Holby every week for seven years or whatever, it’s bound to sink in a bit.”

24 Bosses Defend Torture Scenes

bosses behind the hit TV show, 24, have defended the frequent torture scenes that appear in the show.

“We invent these scenarios where you’re certain the terrorist knows where the bomb is,” writer and executive producer Evan Katz told Sun Online. “Of course, that is a certainty that doesn’t really exist in real life.

“The truth is, that in those circumstances (torture) seems like the right thing to do, to us.

“If a character knows where a nuclear bomb is going to go off, then I don’t think that there are too many people who would say, ‘okay we can’t torture him because it’s against our principles and so we will let the nuclear bomb go off’.”

And it added, “We understood that some parents may have felt uncomfortable explaining what ’sexy’ meant, but we nevertheless concluded that the ad was suitable to be shown without a scheduling restriction.”
