To celebrate its 30th anniversary, G.O.L.D. is throwing open the doors of TV’s most famous hotel once more after a lengthy absence, but it’s an absence during which the show has remained as funny, and as watched, as it was when it first aired. Fawlty Towers: Re-opened gathers the cast and crew together to retrace the history of the sitcom from their ‘insider’ point of view. This one-off special tonight leaves no English Riviera stone unturned in its search for trivia and nuggets of information from the Fawlty Towers guestbook, together with in-depth interviews with John Cleese, Andrew Sachs and Prunella Scales, as well as Connie Booth talking about her memories from the show for the first time in 30 years. Can you believe we’re in October tomorrow? Only thirteen weeks ‘til Christmas! Feel free to have a nervous breakdown; I’m going to. In the meantime, the excellent TV scheduling for autumn continues tonight with the exception of a football shaped fly in the ointment as yet again, ITV1 gives over the primetime slot to the UEFA Champions League, Arsenal v Porto, 7.30pm – 10pm.
Fortunately, there are plenty of other programmes worth watching so let’s take a look at our recommendations for tonight’s telly…
Emmerdale, ITV1, 7pm ~ We kick off – pun intended – with a trip to Yorkshire where we find Zak and Eli taking Danielle to the train station, but smarmy Shane foils their plans when he searches their van and discovers her stash of drugs. Ross is struggling with his feelings for Donna when Chas offers to accompany him to the police fundraising ball, while Lily confides in Pearl about Peter’s money troubles. Read more & comment »

As is the way of Saturday’s, there’s a lot of reality TV on tonight but we’ve picked out a few little gems for you to watch if you aren’t a fan of people fame hunting on national TV! There are some really good films on too so you might want Sky+ at the ready…
Merlin, BBC1, 6pm ~ Knight Valiant arrives in Camelot to compete in the annual sword-fighting tournament and faces Arthur in the final.
