Why I Love: Lacey Turner as Stacey Slater

1702271

Lacey’s portrayal as the primary carer of her mother – who has bipolar disorder – is outstanding and one of her best performances ever was in last night’s episode.

Stacey’s tears as she told Charlie about how Jean was sent to a psychiatric unit when Stacey was a child were very convincing and choked me up too. I really think Lacey’s emotional but powerful portrayal of Stacey is very much underrated and there’s more of it to come as events with Jean come to a head this week. Read more & comment »

Why I Love The Discovery Channels

discovery_channel_logo

I think the Discovery Channel and all its offshoot channels are very much underrated. They show some brilliant programmes and all of human and animal life is there, just waiting to be Discover-ed. media-7914-19472

For instance, the awesome show My Shocking Story features stuff you just wouldn’t find anywhere else; Freak Show Family and Half Man Half Tree… epic stuff.

And on the Home & Health channel all of humanity goes through the doors of the various hospitals that feature in the many medical shows from Family Fat Surgeons to The Real ER, nothing is taboo and nothing is too gory or weird.

I absolutely love medical shows and am not at all squeamish so it’s a twisted bonus to watch my squeamish family gag as I blithely watch someone extracting a tumour the size of a football from someone else while eating dinner. Read more & comment »

Why I Love A Place In The Sun

Jonnie and Jasmine
I’ve always loved travel programmes; they fascinate me because chances are, seeing exotic places around the world on TV is as close to them as I’m likely to get. Add to that the fact that I love house hunting and a programme that shows both glorious global locations and a house hunt and you’re guaranteed my full attention!

Imagine my joy then that over the last few days on Discovery Travel & Living channel it’s been back to back episodes of A Place In The Sun and A Place In The Sun: Home Or Away. I’ve literally had this channel playing in the background for days. Read more & comment »

Why I LOVE The Royle Family!

I was so thrilled to see that it’s been confirmed that The Royle Family will be back for a Christmas special on BBC this year. It’s one of my all time favourite shows and there are many reasons why I love it, but I think the main one is that there’s someone we all know in that living room isn’t there? At least one someone.

I can’t name names because it would cause pandemonium but I know someone who’s just like Jim, someone who I swear Caroline Aherne based Barbara on and our Anthony is in fact someone in my immediate family, I’m sure of it! Quite literally, there’s some aspect of someone I know in every one of the characters, which I suspect is something that everybody finds and is one of the reasons this show has been so successful.

Why I LOVE Lost!

Lost is – in my not so humble opinion – THE best show there has ever been on TV.

My life is only complete when it’s on and in the hiatus between seasons, I am bereft. I live in mortal fear of dying before the end because then I’ll never know why they’re there.

Does this make me a saddo? Quite possibly, but I don’t care; I’m addicted to Lost and am literally counting the days until season 5 is on our screens and until it is, I’ll keep replaying old episodes and scouring the net for spoilers and trailers, and I’ll do so unashamedly because I think a show of this calibre deserves addicts.

From the very beginning, as soon as I saw this trailer, I was hooked…
