Vet Rhona Kirk (Zoe Henry) is of course battling with an addiction to strong prescription painkillers right now, and over the course of the last couple of weeks, her life has been going progressively downhill as she attempts to function while dealing with withdrawal symptoms and cravings.

So far, only her friend and partner in the vets’ surgery Vanessa (Michelle Hardwick) knows Rhona’s secret, and as fans will know, Vanessa has been trying to help Rhona to wean herself off the drugs by supplying her with medicines from their surgery.

In next week’s episodes of Emmerdale, prescription drug addicted vet Rhona Kirk (Zoe Henry) is set to suffer a collapse as she tries to withdraw from the assorted painkilling medication that she’s been taking for months now…

And it’s her horrified friend Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick) who finds Rhona curled up, sweating and barely coherent as her addiction shows itself in a frightening manner.

However, her GP has apparently wised up to the fact that Rhona might be abusing the prescription drugs, as has Rhona’s local pharmacist, so she’s finding it increasingly difficult to get hold of the drugs she badly craves.

As fan of Emmerdale will know, vets Paddy and Rhona are off New Zealand in September, and they’re taking baby Leo with them…

Leo is of course Rhona’s (Zoe Henry) son, but he’s also pub chef Marlon Dingle’s little boy, and when faced with the prospect of not seeing his son for at least two years, Marlon (Mark Charnock) decided to go with Paddy (Dominic Brunt) and Rhona to NZ.

However, that decision was made before Laurel Thomas (Charlotte Bellamy) – with whom Marlon had a platonic affair last year – told Marlon that she’s in love with him and wants them to have a proper relationship now that her marriage to shamed vicar Ashley (John Middleton) is over.

We love it here at Unreality TV when art mirror’s life in the soap world, and nothing does it better than when two soap actors fall in love after the camera turns off.

In EastEnders you have the young relationships of co-stars Matt Lapinskas (Anthony Moon) and Shona McGarty (Whitney Dean) and the more recent romance between Tony Discipline (Tyler Moon) and Jacqueline Jossa (Lauren Branning).  In Emmerdale there is the bizarre real life marriage between Jeff Hordley (Cain Dingle) and Zoe Henry (Rhona the vet) and the engagement between Charley Webb (Debbie Dingle) and Matthew Wolfenden (David Metcalfe).

In Coronation Street the path of true love doesn’t run quite so smooth, with all off-screen romances resulting in one half leaving the show, like Samia Ghadie (Maria Connor) and Will Thorp (Chris the wife-beater) and Ryan Thomas (Jason Grimshaw) and Tina O’Brien (Sarah Louise Grimshaw), who spilt up not long after O’Brien’s departure.

As fans of Emmerdale will most likely know, Zoe Henry, who plays vet Rhona Goskirk, is in real life married to fellow cast member Jeff Hordley, who plays bad lad Cain Dingle.

However, in an interview with Inside Soap magazine, Zoe revealed that she’s glad she and Jeff – who was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease in 1996 – don’t get to play any scenes together as they then have “different days” to talk about when they get home after work.

Zoe – who’s also starred in Corrie and EastEnders – said, “Let’s be honest, Rhona and Cain would never interact!

“The only way they’d cross paths is if Cain bought a hamster and brought it into the vets, which is most unlikely. I can’t imagine them having a conversation about anything.

“Jeff and I quite like that we don’t do scenes together. It means we’ve got different days to talk about when we get home…” Read more & comment »

Emmerdale actress Zoe Henry has admitted that she is glad to be involved in a storyline about Down’s Syndrome children.

The 37 year old star, who has previously appeared in Coronation Street, plays Rhona Goskirk in the Yorkshire based ITV soap. The vet has had a tough year and recently broke Marlon Dingle’s heart as she chose to leave him for his best friend Paddy. Since the split, Rhonda discovered that she is pregnant to the gangly chef and was later was devastated by the Down’s diagnosis.
