Take That superstar, Jason Orange, is to move away from his music career for a little while, as he takes on a role in the final series of Channel 4 hit drama, Shameless!
The new, and final series of Shameless, set in the fictional Chatsworth estate in Manchester, is due to air this spring, ending in the summer after 139 episodes of the epic and iconic show.
So far it is reported that several stars, including returning cast members, are joining the Gallagher clan to mark this special occasion after its creator, Paul Abbott, announced in October last year that this series would be the last.
Lined up are Anne-Marie Duff, who played Fiona Gallagher in the hit show in the first few series as well as Jody Latham and Elliott Tittensor who played Fiona’s brothers Lip and Carl Gallagher.
And now it seems, with the end in sight, other celebrity fans of the show want in on the action, in particular Take That star, Jason Orange.
Orange is due to play a DJ called Scouse Mouse who heads up a pop festival held on the Chatsworth estate, home to the iconic Gallagher family lead by bone-idol alcoholic, Frank Gallagher (David Threlfall).
Jason, who is originally from Manchester, will play his role in disguise during the episode, but will be unmasked when he takes off his mouse outfit in a special scene to be shown after the credits roll.
Orange, who used to date Doctor Who star and comedian, Catherine Tate, is reported to be a huge fan of the show, which failed to win over US audiences when an American version was created recently.
A show source told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “He had a great time on set and was line perfect for a triumphant TV acting debut. But it’s hard to say who was more excited about it – him or the production team.”
