Tardis to be blasted into space to mark Doctor Who’s 50th anniversary!
It’s been revealed today that couple of Doctor Who fanatics in America have raised £20,000 so that they can see their dream of blasting the Doctor’s Tardis – which is, as Whovians will already know, an acronym for Time and Relative Dimensions In Space – into space become a reality!
The wacky fans, who are son and daughter Robert and Alex Doyle, apparently began their campaign to send a replica of the Tardis into orbit online, and according to the Daily Star, within days, they hit their target of £20k as other Who fanatics chipped in.
The paper adds, “Robert Doyle and his daughter Alex came up with the wacky idea to celebrate the show’s 50th anniversary…
“The pair, from Florida, USA, started an online campaign to put the Tardis on a commercial rocket.”
Robert said, “I was always a Doctor Who fan in school. I wore a Doctor Who scarf.
“Tom Baker was my favourite. He was always The Doctor to me.
“The bug caught on in an infectious way so we wanted to do something to celebrate the show we both enjoy so much.
“I just can’t wait to see pictures of the Tardis up in space. It’s so exciting.”
What say you? Would – or does – the idea of a Tardis in space appeal to you enough to spend £20k on seeing it happen?
For now, here’s a look at the latest incarnation of the Tardis…
