Desperate Housewives is coming to an end but it seems that Teri Hatcher isn’t going to take much of a break after the much loved series dies.
The former ‘Lois & Clark’ actress has been one of the central characters on DS, since its premiere on ABC on October 3, 2004 and she must have enjoyed her time there, as it has been confirmed that now she will be keeping her loyalty within the ABC network.
Her first post-Housewives gig will be a guest starring and directorial role on ‘Jane By Design’, which will also air on ABC Family.
Hatcher will take on the role of the long estranged mother of central character Jane (Erica Dasher) for four episodes initially, with the option of a return down the line.
“I’m thrilled for the opportunity to direct. So many of the crew and cast of Desperate Housewives’ have been encouraging me to do this for a long time, from Vanessa Williams, James Denton, to the talented camera crew department and producers,” Hatcher said in a statement. “Now that I have time, I’m excited to wholeheartedly conquer new ventures. Jane By Design is charming, with very funny performances. I look forward to working with new and old friends over there and helping them tell stories both in front and behind the camera.”
Adds ABC Family’s Kate Juergens: “We are beyond excited to have Teri join the cast of Jane By Design, coming off of her incredible run on Desperate Housewives and making ABC Family the home of her directorial debut. Teri’s talent will bring the perfect blend of depth, comedy and emotion to the greatly anticipated role of Jane’s long-lost mother.”
Jane By Design follows the life of Jane Quimby (Erica Dasher), a teenager who had to be mistaken for an adult to finally get her fashion dream job and work with a world-famous designer, Gray Chandler Murray (Andie McDowell). She is forced to juggle two secret lives: one in high school, and one in high fashion.
Teri is expected to make her debut on the show on June 19th. Desperate Housewives will end with an episode titled “Finishing the Hat” on May 13th.
Marc Cherry, the show’s creator, will make a cameo in the episode and it is the first installment written by Marc Cherry in this season, and the last time he wrote a finale was in the second season episode “Remember”.
With 180 episodes through 8 seasons, Desperate Housewives is the longest running American show featuring all female leads, beating Charmed, which had 178 episodes.
Teri won her a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress and the Screen Actor’s Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actress in a Comedy Series for her work on Desperate Housewives in 2005.
