Former Hollyoaks actress Terri Dwyer has admitted that she would be open to returning to the Channel 4 soap.

Dwyer played Ruth Osborne in the show from 1995 to 2001.

Speaking to the Sunday Mercury, Dwyer explained: “The nature of my work is that you go into jobs as and when they come up. If Hollyoaks came to me with a great script I would definitely go back.

“I’ve already been back four times, including August last year, and I live in Chester so it would make sense. I made some really good friends at Hollyoaks, some I still see. I went to Jeremy Edwards’s wedding last year and still see one or two others.”

The star also revealed that the original cast members were committed to making Hollyoaks a success when Phil Redmond launched the programme 14 years ago.

She commented: “We were kids in our 20s but there were no kiss-and-tells or falling out of nightclubs. It was great at that age to have that kind of job and very exciting, as we were doing something different and didn’t know if the programme would get recommissioned.

“We got a lot of stick at the start because Phil Redmond wanted to do something like Beverley Hills 90210. We got a lot of bad press along the lines of ‘pretty girls can’t act’, but we made it work.”
