It seems to be something of a trend of late, soapy favourites heading back to their old stomping grounds, and today, it’s been revealed that one of Coronation Street’s favourite Rovers is about to Return as Nigel Pivaro is to reprise his role as bad-lad Terry Duckworth.
See what I did there? Rovers – Return? This is why they pay me the big bucks…
Terry is of course the wayward son of Jack and Vera Duckworth, and Tommy Duckworth’s dad. Not that he’s ever been a dad to Out Tommy, and even sold the boy to his in-laws when he was a baby, for which Jack Duckworth (Bill Tarmey) never forgave him…
But his mum Vera (Liz Dawn) just couldn’t resist taking her son back into the fold, no matter how often he cheated, lied and fleeced her for money, bless her.
So now of course, it remains to be seen how Tommy (Chris Fountain) is going to react to his long lost dad turning up in Weatherfield.
A show source said of Terry’s return, “His explosive return will cause shock waves with the residents when his reason for returning is revealed…”
Nigel first landed the role of bad boy Terry in 1984, and since then, has made sporadic appearances on the show, usually leaving having committed some crime or another, only to return when he runs out of cash. Terry’s last appearance was at his mum’s funeral.
Speaking to the paper about his return to the cobbles, Nigel – who’s now a journalist – said, “Part of the excitement is that the show has changed so much.
“With so many different characters and set-ups, it will present Terry with a completely different landscape to the one he knew before.
“I am going to enjoy playing Terry rediscovering his roots, the changes that have taken place and his reaction to them.
“It will be strange and a little sad without Bill and Liz as Jack and Vera, with whom I had forged such a strong working and personal relationship, but I relish creating an interesting new rapport with Chris, who plays Terry’s son Tommy.”
And Corrie’s producer, Phil Collinson, added, “I’m very excited to be welcoming arch villain Terry Duckworth back.
“I grew up watching him duck and dive and break his parents’ hearts — a deliciously evil performance from Nigel Pivaro.
This time, though, he’ll not only be blighting the life of Tommy but the lives of every Corrie resident.”
I can’t wait to see him again! Here’s a clip of Nigel’s last appearance as Terry…
