Former X Factor judge, Cheryl Cole, has filmed a funny Coronation Street sketch for this year’s Text Santa!
The Geordie Girls aloud singer will be shown in the sketch alongside Micelle Keegan, who plays barmaid Tina McIntyre, in the Rovers Return pub for the Christmas charity fundraiser.
In the scenes to be shown during the live telethon to be shown on Friday, December 20 on ITV, Cole will turn up at the famous Rovers Return pub, which is about to make a move with the rest of the set to its new home in MediaCity UK, Salford Quays, looking for Tina, who is revealed to be one of her old friends.
The storyline centre’s around Cole coming to collect Tina to travel home to Newcastle with her for Tina’s mum’s Christmas party, but a series of events puts a few spanners in the works, with Weatherfield regulars Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) and his partner Michelle Connor (Kym Marsh) along with Kirk Sutherland (Andy Whyment) also featuring in the sketch.
Discussing her Corrie cameo, Cheryl Cole took to the official Text Santa website to comment:
“Coronation Street has always been part of my life – we’d all watch it as kids every night. It’s surreal to be part of something I’ve watched my whole life.
“It’s great to be able to support six wonderful charities and I really hope that this year’s appeal makes a difference to many lives.”
Other highlights from this year’s Text Santa, which will be hosted by celebrity pairings of Holly Willoughby & Phillip Schofield, Paddy McGuinness & Christine Bleakley and national treasures Ant & Dec, include a sketch from rival ITV soap Emmerdale, and another sketch from Corrie featuring Shane MacGowan from The Pogues as well as other popular ITV shows and a number of “very special, mystery guests” performing live on the night, including Robbie Williams and The Big Reunion doing a rendition of the classic Wizzard Christmas track, I Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day.
Text Santa will air on ITV at 8pm on Friday, December 20, in a bid to raise money for ITV’s six chosen charities, Age UK, Barnardo’s, BeatBullying, British Heart Foundation, Clic Sargent and Help the Hospices.
