The British Soap Awards 2012: Unreality TV meets the stars of EastEnders on the red carpet!
Last night saw the 13th annual British Soap Awards, and all the stars braved the wind and rain to take their seats for the spectacular event, held at the ITV studios in London, where UnrealityTV were on the red carpet to speak to them all before the ceremony started.
The EastEnders cast were surprisingly sparse when it came to the red carpet event, especially when compared to the huge Emmerdale crew that showed up en masse, but we managed to catch up with some of the Walford residents to clear up some old rumours and get some new gossip!
First up were the Moon brothers, Tony Discipline and Matt Lapinskas, who play Tyler and Anthony in the show. Both looked dashing in their suits and happily chatted about the awkwardness, or in this case the lack of, in scenes where Tyler has to kiss on-screen girlfriend, Whitney Dean (Shona McGarthy) who is dating Lapinskas in real life. When asked if there was romance in store for Anthony with Amira out of the way, we were teased to watch this space, with a little wink. As for the future of Tyler and Whitney, Discipline is hoping that their story stays happy, and confirmed that there is no end in near sight for the new relationship, but did hint that there may be some trust related issues on the horizon.
Shona McGarthy followed a little later and confirmed that she doesn’t have an issue with kissing her boyfriend’s on-screen brother in front of him, as well as thanking all our readers for their support and commenting that she thought UnrealityTV was a fab site!
Nina Wadia (Zainab Masood) and Ace Bhatti (Yusef Khan) walked down the red carpet together last night and we asked Ace what sort of reaction he has received from the public following his departure from the soap and the domestic violence plot that lead to his death earlier this year, which earned him nominations for Spectacular Scene Of The Year and Villain Of The Year awards, as well as earning Nina a nomination for Best Actress award. Bhatti told us that the response had been varied, and that he was booed walking into the studios that day, but that a boo is like an award to a villain. He went on to tell us how he was missing the cast of EastEnders but that he knew when taking the job that his character had an expiry date and that he was lucky in his job as now he is about to take on a new project, playing another doctor!
Following the unhappy couple were the rest of the Masood clan, Mas himself (Nitin Ganatra), Syed (Marc Elliott) and Tamwar (Himesh Patel). We asked them if, now that Zainab is starting to accept Christian (John Partridge) can viewers expect a brighter, funnier future for the once light hearted family. Nitin teased that maybe there would be some comedy in store, but to expect some more heartbreak as well!
Ricky Norwood (Fat Boy) was as warm and funny as you would expect and stopped to thank viewers and UnrealityTV readers for their support of late, as well as clarifying categorically that he is not on the social networking site, Twitter. So if you think you are following him, you are not, every account associated with his name is a fake.
Also on the carpet were Rita Simons and Scott Maslen – who was nominated for sexiest male for the 4th consecutive year at the ceremony – who walked out together, constantly messing and laughing, making it easy to see where they develop their on-screen chemistry from.
Shane Richie (Alfie Moon), who was nominated in the Best Actor category, was there too, with his wife, and stopped to clarify that Kat’s(Jessie Wallace) return will cause a stir as the situation between his character, Alfie and Roxy Mitchell gets more serious. He also commented that the love triangle involving the three characters was always going to happen, just the timing of it changed after Jessie’s sabbatical earlier in the year.
Tameka Empson and Chucky Venn also made time for a little chat, when Tameka commented on her experience on Let’s Dance For Sports Relief, saying how she now considered herself to be the new Beyonce! Finally, Sid Owen who plays Ricky Butcher in the soap confirmed that he is back filming and denied the rumours that he would be competing in this years Strictly Come Dancing! You heard it here first!!!
The British Soap Awards will air on ITV1 this Wednesday, 8pm on ITV1. We will have the list of winners online from midnight tonight, so check back if you can’t wait until the show is broadcast!
