The Fixer Coming To ITV1

A trained killer with a tragic past, a turbo charged petty thief, and a beautiful, complicated, manipulative femme fatale are brought together to disorganise crime and bring order where law has failed.
From Kudos, the award winning producers of Spooks, Hustle and Life On Mars comes The Fixer, a major new six-part crime drama for ITV1. Featuring a stellar cast including Peter Mullan (Children of Men, Young Adam, My Name is Joe), Andrew Buchan (Cranford, Party Animals, Jane Eyre), Tamzin Outhwaite (Hotel Babylon, Walk Away and I Stumble) Jody Latham (Shameless) and Liz White (Life on Mars, The Street)
John Mercer (Andrew Buchan) is ex-Special Forces serving a double life sentence for the murder of his aunt and uncle. It was a crime he committed out of revenge for the years of physical abuse his sister Jess (Liz White) suffered at their hands. Released from prison unexpectedly early, John is introduced to the shadowy Lenny Jameson (Peter Mullan), a police officer retired on grounds of “ill health,” he quickly learns that his freedom comes at a price. Jameson runs an unofficial operation with a single brief: dealing with untouchable criminals and disorganising crime. Mercer’s role is that of hitman.
Blackmailed by Douglas into killing for the state Mercer struggles to come to terms with what is being asked of him. Desperate for any chance at a normal life, John attempts to reconcile himself to the task in hand. But each new assignment only brings him further and further into conflict with his taskmasters and his conscience begins to take over.
To help him fulfil each hit, Mercer is introduced to his new colleagues, including Calum McKenzie (Jody Latham), a petty thief, whose main interests are girls, drugs and slamming tunes. He is worlds away from the intelligent, thoughtful ex-soldier.
Things are further complicated by the final member of Lenny’s group of misfits: the beautiful but duplicitous Rose (Tamzin Outhwaite). A disgraced ex-copper who has always used her sexuality and guile as her primary weapon, she is more than a match for Mercer. Also clever and complex, she recognises John as a kindred spirit. But will Lenny tolerate their bond?
Operating outside the parameters of the law, they are a disparate group at odds with the world. However, when it comes to fulfilling their brief they are lethally effective. They are the solution and Mercer is the fix. But for how long? Manufactured into a killer for the state against his will, John is looking for a way out.

This has similar undertones to a book I wrote over 10 years ago and couldn’t get published,I’m wondering where this original idea came from?
