The Great British Body: Trinny and Susannah Want Us To Get Naked!

Trinny And Susannah

ITV’s style experts Trinny and Susannah want the UK to get naked and measure themselves as they hope to create the nation’s most comprehensive body census.

In a brand new three part event for ITV1, Trinny and Susannah will tour the UK to investigate what lies beneath the UK’s outfits they made their names styling, for The Great British Body.

They want to find out the nation’s vital statistics by encouraging people to measure every aspect of their body, from height and waist, to chest size, leg and arm length and enter the data online at www.itv.com/body

They have recorded their very own ‘how to’ video to encourage viewers to take part and demonstrate how to measure themselves, from the size of their feet to the length of their ears, every inch of the British body is covered.

“We think the British public suffer from a negative view about the nation’s body shape - that we’re overweight, unattractive, that we feel pressurised to look a certain way. So we want people to really look at themselves objectively, they’ll then realise that it’s not that way at all,” says Susannah.

Trinny adds: “But to do this we need everyone to measure up! Dig those tape measures out of the kitchen drawer, get naked with your partner or on your own and measure everything - your chest, your legs, your arms, even, guys - your beer bellies!”

Trinny and Susannah are hitting the road themselves, visting the north, central and south of the country. Road show events will take place in Newcastle, Birmingham, and Brighton throughout April where a team of experts will weigh and measure those who want to be a part of the programme.

The girls want to seek out remarkable individual case studies as they search for the ultimate Great British Body, whilst a team of body experts will be on hand to explain how the UK’s shape is changing and investigate how the country feels about it.

“We decided we had to take to the road - and go across Britain to discover what the Great British body looks like - all our lumps and bumps, all those features that make us unique and those that we share as a nation. We want to uncover emerging body trends, and the nation’s vital statistics. And above all we really wanted to understand how people feel about their bodies,” says Susannah.

Their ultimate aim is to persuade people to ditch their clothes and bare their bodies in a massive naked sculpture depicting two inspirational people – a man and a woman that Trinny and Susannah will select during their tour for the grand finale of the series.

“We hope to meet people of all shapes and sizes with fascinating body stories to tell,” says Susannah.

“We also need to recruit people for our massive living sculpture - naked of course - of the Great British Body. And on our travels we want to find two people - a man and a woman - who will be the inspirational life models for the naked sculpture.”

Trinny adds: “We’ve spent years dressing the nation’s bodies, and we now felt it was time to really understand what lies beneath.”

In addition to the online poll, the series has also commissioned a national body survey to be carried out by MORI to accurately measure people across the country.

As part of the investigations into the great British body, population geneticist Dr Jim Wilson will be on hand during the road shows to investigate how the fat gene FT0 is spread across the UK and to try and determine if certain parts of the country are more prone to carrying the fat gene.

Dr Wilson will analyse DNA from volunteers in his mobile laboratory to try and determine how the fat gene may have spread across the UK and to what extent it might have a bearing on an individuals weight

The road show events are open to all members of the public aged 18 or over and do not require registration beforehand - anyone who wants to be part of the event can turn up on the day at the venues below.

12th April – The Sage Centre, Gateshead, Newcastle

13th April – Brighton Dome, Brighton
