The Hotel Inspector On Five
Renowned hotelier and author Ruth Watson returns to Five for a third series, continuing her mission to reverse Britain’s reputation for poorly run hotels, guesthouses and B&Bs.
In the opening edition, Ruth heads to the East Sussex coast to tackle a hotel whose owner is actively opposed to her ideas before he has even met her.

Programme last night, Grand Hotel at Hastings. One part I did not like was when Ruth insisted that an item of breakfast food was cooked with salt. As a person who must not cook with nor add salt to food, Ruth was wrong. The small amount of salt that I am allowed each day I obtain from items like bread. My husband also has to limit his salt intake, and he agrees with me that it should be left to the guest to add salt if needed.

I was very surprised nobody picked up on the spelling mistake ‘accommodation’ on the new sign for the Beech House!

How did this visit turn out?
If you check the hotel’s web site it looks as if Ruth has never been there. The signs outside are as before. No mention of star rating, flexible pricing and the word “hotel” is back!
How did Mr Bissell’s business survive? Was it the party they had for local businesses that brought in the bookings?
