The Ice Cream Girls: A new three part psychological drama from ITV

New three-part drama The Ice Cream Girls starts tonight on ITV. The drama tells the story of Serena Gorringe and Poppy Carlisle who, in 1995, were accused of killing their teacher. In the present day, Serena is forced to confront the memories she had long since buried. Meanwhile Poppy is released from prison after serving seventeen years for a crime she still insists she didn’t commit.

Poppy and Serena were briefly friends in the summer of 1995. But one night during that summer, a horrific tragedy occurred that would change the pair’s lives forever.

In the present day, Serena returns to her hometown for the first time in 17 years which brings back memories of a secret she has concealed from both her husband and daughter. Serena’s memories are of a teenage love affair she conducted with her teacher Mr Halnsley. However this affair ended with his brutal murder.

Poppy has also returned to the same hometown after she is paroled from prison. Poppy was found guilty of murder – a crime she claims not to have committed. Now she’s been released, she realises that the only way to get her life back is to find Serena and force her to admit what really happened that night.

The Ice Cream Girls begins tonight on ITV at 9pm
