The Inbetweeners movie sequel WILL go ahead says writer Damon Beesley
Fans of The Inbetweeners movie may now whoop for joy because writer Damon Beesley has confirmed that plans for a sequel are well underway and it’s “all systems go.”
And according to the Sun, the stars of the film, Joe Thomas, James Buckley, Simon Bird and Blake Harrison – who of course also starred in the hugely successful TV series – can expect to net a Very Nice Thank You sum of £10million between them for their participation in the follow up movie.
Damon, who created the show alongside Iain Morris, said, “I don’t want to give too much away at this stage but yes, we have been developing an idea for a sequel.
“We miss working with Simon, Joe, James and even Blake too much not to give it a go…”
Damon added that he’s now focused on making sure everyone involved is happy with the idea of a sequel before it’s set in stone, “to make sure that we can do justice to a follow-up”.
The film’s stars were originally paid only – ‘only’ she says – £100,000 from the first movie’s £3million budget, but they were also paid a £400,000 bonus off so-called “back end” profits after its huge box office success.
The paper suggests that one concept for the sequel could see the friends reunited for Blake’s character, Neil’s, stag do.
A show source said, “The Inbetweeners took off like a rocket, far beyond many expectations…
“The budget was low and no one got shedloads of money up front so understandably everyone wants to cash in the second time round.”
The paper’s article adds of The Inbetweeners, “It is now being talked of as the UK equivalent to the hugely successful American Pie franchise.”
The first Inbetweeners Movie launches in the US on September 7, but apropos of American viewers, the US remake of the show has been slated by viewers and critics, who’s labeled it “bland” by comparison with the UK forerunner.
