The King Is Dead, Elvis Presley On Sky One
To commemorate the 30th anniversary of the death of Elvis Presley, Sky TV will be broadcasting The King Is Dead, a long weekend celebrating the life of the King of Rock and Roll.
The cross-channel event kicks off on the anniversary of his death, Thursday 16th August, with three of Presley’s best silver screen performances on Sky Movies Classics - starting with his first film, Love Me Tender, released way back in 1956. Wild in the Country and the classic Clam Bake complete the triple bill.
The same night, Sky Arts will broadcast Altered by Elvis. Almost 30 years after Elvis ‘left the building’, his impact on our culture is as big as ever. From extreme fans to loyal loved ones and even those who make their living off the King, Altered By Elvis is a fascinating documentary film of lives fathered, fulfilled, and even destroyed by Elvis. A clear-cut hit of the 2006 Memphis International Film Festival, this moving and often hilarious exploration digs deep to expose those that The King of Rock and Roll left behind. This hour-long documentary shadows 8 individuals each Altered By Elvis. From the man who styled Elvis’ hair for his funeral to the woman who moved from Milwaukee to Memphis to be near his grave this documentary reveals how people still walk with Elvis’ shadow every day.
The Biography Channel gets up close and personal with The King for its Elvis Rocks weekend. The Thursday premiere, A Little Bit of Elvis, follows comedian Frank Skinner as he embarks upon a rocking road trip across America, having spent £11,000 on some highly dubious musical memorabilia. In the premiere Elvis Presley’s Graceland, we take an entertaining look around Graceland and its related attractions, including Heartbreak Hotel and Presley’s Memphis restaurant and nightclub. We also chart the dramatic history of the Presley family in The Presley Family, and enjoy Elvis’s classic albums and performances in Elvis The Great Performances. Finally, we accompany Gail Porter and Chris Fleming on a spooky search for the snake hipped singer’s spirit.
