Munsters update Mockingbird Lane axed
Munsters spin-off Mockingbird Lane has been axed by American network NBC.
The remake, which starred Jerry O’Connell, Eddie Izzard and Portia de Rossi, was dropped by TV bosses after one single pilot episode.
Taking to Twitter this week, creator Brian Fuller wrote: “I tweet with a heavy heart. NBC not moving forward with #MockingbirdLane. From producers and cast, thank you all for enthusiasm and support.”
The show was developed in 2010 and throughout 2011 but the making of the pilot was delayed until June this year due to casting issues.
The programme, in which Jerry O’Connell played family head Herman Munster and Eddie Izzard played the grandpa, first aired as a Halloween special in October.
The episode proved relatively popular with viewers with 5.4 million people tuning in to watch.
Rumours circulated that the show was to be redeveloped to focus on the Grandpa and cousin Marilyn before it was dropped by NBC.
It has been reported the pilot episode cost $10 million to make.
