The News Of The World Children’s Champions Awards

The Children’s Champions Awards celebrate those people who go further than anyone else to make a positive difference in the lives of children. Supported by Barnardo’s children’s charity, and the Royal Mail, The News of the World will be hosting this special annual awards ceremony in London, and this year the event will be televised for the very first time, exclusively on Sky One and Sky One HD.
A celebrity panel of judges including Sarah Brown, Emma Bunton, Sir Trevor McDonald, Dame Kelly Holmes, Myleene Klass and Lord Stevens will choose the winners from nominations made by members of the public. From a brilliant teacher to a school dinner lady, a life-saving doctor to a nurse or hospital cleaner, a member of the emergency services, or a fabulous foster mum, this is a wonderful opportunity for all the unsung heroes across the country to be recognised.
The awards will be hosted by Jenni Falconer and her GMTV partner Mike Underwood. Other stars set to attend include new England boss Fabio Capello, X Factor’s Louis Walsh, national treasure Barbara Windsor and Project Catwalk host Kelly Osbourne.
Sky One will broadcast a special one hour programme on Sunday 16th March 2008, featuring all the highlights of this gala event, and the worthy winners.
The Awards are divided into a number of different categories including The 999 Award, The Schools Award, The Medical Award and The Children’s Award. Winners will be invited to attend the Awards and spend a VIP day in London that will include a visit to Number 10 Downing Street to meet Prime Minister Gordon Brown and his wife Sarah. Each winner will also receive £5,000 and the overall winner - Britain’s ultimate Children’s Champion - will receive £10,000.
Nominations for The Children’s Champions Awards can be made online via: www.newsoftheworld.co.uk/childrenschamps - The closing date is February 22nd, 2008.
