The Wild Gourmet, Channel 4

They say that there is no such thing as a free lunch, but cook Tommi Miers and writer/ adventurer Guy Grieve disagree.

The Wild Gourmets believe that the British countryside is a rich larder just waiting to be unlocked. In a bid to prove that Britain’s wild food is better than any supermarket or Michelin-starred restaurant fare, Tommi and Guy travel across the country, in their vegetable oil fuelled vehicle, surviving only on the food that they are able to hunt, forage, shoot or catch. But this is not simply a matter of eating to survive. They are intent on eating like kings.

The Wild Gourmets are on a mission to show that foraging is more than just eating grubs and stinging nettles. Tommi wants to create inspirational feasts from the freshest and wildest seasonal produce the regions have to offer. If he can’t achieve this, then they will go hungry.

Increasingly consumers are keen to know where their food comes from. Wild food is common practice across the Channel, but traditionally the British haven’t followed their Gallic neighbour’s example. The Wild Gourmets provides a fascinating insight into the hidden gastronomic treasures of our rivers, valleys, mountains and hedgerows inspiring viewers to create mouth watering recipes from a surprising selection of ingredients.

The Wild Gourmet launches on Channel 4 this autumn.
