This Morning legends, Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan will be returning to the hit ITV chat show to join in with its 25th birthday celebrations, the Sun newspaper reports.
Richard and Judy first hosted the show, currently hosted by Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby, when it first launched back in 1988 up until 2001, before leaving to host hosting the daily chat show Richard & Judy from 2001 until 2009.
So it is only fitting that they should be included in the festivities of the landmark Anniversary, when the show turns 25 in October.
Finnigan confirmed the news at this year’s Royal Television Society Awards where she also admitted that she and Richard would be heading back to the show’s original home in Liverpool for the anniversary, with Richard commenting:
“I’m not to say too much but Liverpool is very much in the picture.
“We were at Albert Dock last week promoting Judy’s novel and we went to where we used to… yeah, it’s a café now. It was a strange feeling.”
This Morning was filmed at studios in the Albert Dock in Liverpool until 1996, before moving to its current home, ITV Towers London Studios.
Since leaving, Madeley has appeared on the show by himself, publicising his autobiography, and the couple joined the show’s current presenters, Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby, on 5 October 2009, to celebrate its twenty first birthday.
Richard said of the anniversary: “I can’t think of any of the regulars who’ve popped their clogs, so fingers crossed we’ll all be there. It will be great.”
Meanwhile, it would seem that not all the shows previous stars are being welcomed back, as The Sun newspaper yesterday reported that John Leslie, who was accused with unproven rape claims whilst hosting the show back in 2002, has not been invited.
A source told the publication: “No one is banned from coming but it’s unlikely that John will be there. He may feature as part of a montage but we haven’t yet decided.”
