Jonathan Maitland has discovered a new antibiotic resistant superbug behind a disturbing increase in infections and deaths. The first major outbreak was reported in 2003 and already doctors fear it is only a matter of time before existing treatments are ineffective.

Jonathan tracks the spread of the disease from Berkshire to Birmingham to Blackpool and asks what the government are doing to combat a problem that some scientists say poses a more serious threat to our food supply than the BSE crisis in the nineties.
