Torchwood star, John Barrowman has admitted that the BBC Sci-Fi series has been toned down for its newest series in order to help it succeed in the US market.

The Captain Jack Harkness actor told The People: “We’re not swearing or doing anything close to the bone because it’s been a huge success in the US and the networks won’t accept it with all that stuff in it.”

“We’re doing everything so it doesn’t have to be heavily edited for the US,” Barrowman claimed, before adding: “I’ll still be getting naked and it will still be saucy – but it’s done with taste.”

For the previous series Torchwood has achieved record ratings on BBC America. Series three is expected to return in the spring for a short run of only five episodes.

if the us cant handle it then then they shuldnt have it. torchwood is a hard hitting fast thriller of a show and thats how it should stay. the swearing is all part of it. and as its after the water shed it should be ok.

I just recently discovered Torchwood thanks to renting DVDs through Netflix.
I live in Minnesota – USA. Torchwood is excellent as it is, I’m sorry to hear it may be watered down in any way. Last night I watched Out of Time and Combat from the 1st Season. Pretty gritty stuff, but I’d hate to think episodes like this would need to be censored for US viewing. It’s good to know Torchwood is still being filmed, I was relieved to find out there is a Season 3 but why are there only 5 episodes?
