TV & Me: The good, the bad & the ugly

Last week’s telly turned up some awesome shows and acting and equally, some pretty abysmal stuff, so let’s take a look at my picks of the the good, the bad and the ugly of last week’s telly…
The Good
I really enjoyed watching In Bed With Yvette & Karl last night which was followed by Most Haunted: Top 25 Moments.
While we were metaphorically in bed with Yvette and Karl, we heard that this mystery operation that Yvette had was a partial hysterectomy which begged the question, why was there a big shroud of secrecy over it? I really can’t imagine. Yes, of course it’s always scary when anyone needs an op but given the hype and mystery about it, I was expecting something really serious…
I’m glad it wasn’t anything serious of course but again, why the secrecy? I must say though, I did feel sorry for Yvette when she had a bit of a meltdown before the start of this last week’s Search for Evil shows. She had what she described as a ‘panic attack’ brought on by fears about how she looks, if anything would ‘happen’ and would she cope with the tiredness.
Well she needn’t have worried about how she looked; she’s looking very trim at the moment I think and as to worrying if something would happen on the vigils, panic not Yvette – where there’s Karl and Stu, there’s ‘paranormal’ events. Stone throwing, whistling… they’d have sorted it out for you!
The tiredness is another thing though. It really is hard work recovering from that kind of op and I think these days, there’s far too much pressure to recover fast and get over it. Twenty years ago, she’d have been in hospital for weeks then off work for six months!
Anyway, after In Bed With I watched two hours worth of Most Haunted: Top 25 moments which was a brilliant tongue-in-cheek look at some of the best moments of MH, albeit that it was filmed a fair while ago so recent series’ weren’t included. It was filmed during the reign of the now dethroned Derek Accorah.
We were treated again to his most hilarious moment which was when the team were on the hunt for the ghost of Dick Turpin and Derek became ‘possessed’ by a spirit and began chanting “Mary loves Dick!” This should also be hailed as the Most Faked moment; you can see the clip here, but be warned, it contains swearing.
It was a great show though, presented by Jon Culshaw there were a number of celebrity guests giving us their take on which had been their favourite bits.
Another good show this week was Shopping the Family. I had to ask myself “Would I do it?” and several days on, I still don’t know if I would or not!
The parents who were featured in the show had both shopped their children to the police and the results of it had devastated their lives in many ways. It was very moving and an issue that is, to say the least, a contentious one. Would you shop your kids if they broke the law? I just don’t know if I would or not…
The Bad
One of the worst performances for me this week was from Steve McDonald in Coronation Street when his affair with Becky was revealed. He was totally unbelievable; he just acted the clown. Would any man – who valued retaining his gonads – really start making smart Alec comments and being sarcastic when his girlfriend found out he’d been bonking her best mate? I think not.
The other most pants show for me this week was Celebrity Big Brother. Normally, I’m a very big fan of the show but I’ve found it extremely tedious this week, with the exception of watching Verne drive his scooter into the diary room door! That was pretty funny. Here’s a clip of it…
Other than that though, it’s become a tad uninteresting don’t you think? Coolio and his ‘bullying’ is clearly orchestrated and Ulrika should be given Prozac or something just to see if it can maybe stop her crying for a day!
The Ugly
This would have to be What Really Happened: Paul Burrell simply because I can’t stand the man!
Nonetheless, it was a really interesting show and Jacques Peretti got quite a scoop in that he talked to Burrell’s dad and brother which was a TV first. I felt very sorry for Paul’s family who he seems to have dropped from a great height since he achieved his ‘fame’.
What were your favourite bits of last week’s telly? Let us know.
