There’s some rather lovely news to report today in that TV presenter Melanie Sykes is set to marry her ‘toy boy’ lover, Jack Cockings after the couple have had a whirlwind romance that was largely conducted on Twitter!

In fact at one time, the messages between the pair became so racy, Mel’s followers urged the couple to “get a room” and sure enough, they did.

The Sun reports today that 42 year old Melanie said “Yes” to 26 year old roofer Jack Cockings on her birthday last week.

The paper adds, “He gave her an antique diamond ring which she’s been wearing this week on her ITV1 show Let’s Do Lunch With Gino And Mel…”

Mel, who has two children from her previous marriage to actor Daniel Caltagirone, announced the happy news yesterday on Twitter, tweeting, “me & Jack are engaged to be married and we are very giddy xxxx.”

Comedian Alan Carr replied, “So pleased for you both. Bring on the hen party!!”

Of the happy couple’s news, a friend said, “Mel is thrilled. They haven’t set a date yet but hope to get married next year.

“The ring is made up of lots of little diamonds. It’s beautiful.”
