Don’t get too excited. While we all love the ‘Despicable Me’ franchise we won’t be seeing the next blockbuster in the series anytime soon.
Universal have given the third movie an official release date but it’s not this year, or next, or the year after. We’ll literally have a few years to wait.
That’s right, while we’re all waiting on ‘Despicable Me 3’ to see where the crazy group and those minions go next it turns out Universal will keep us waiting until the 30th of June 2017.
‘Despicable Me 2’ had an incredible amount of success when it was first released last year and since its release it has earned a staggering $935 million + worldwide to date.
The film follows international criminal Gru (Steve Carell) who has been recruited by the Anti-Villian League to assist them in dealing with a new type of power super criminal.
It’s still not clear whether or not the original voice actors will reprise their original roles but we imagine that would be the case, especially for Gru.
The first movie was released back in 2010 and since then has made more than $543 million worldwide.
While 2017 might feel like a lightyear away fear not as Universal and Illumination Entertainment have a spin-off movie planned for the summer of 2015.
The story won’t be linked to the ‘Despicable Me’ franchise as of yet but will feature the little yellow Minions as the main characters in their own adventure!
Pharrell William’s track ‘Happy’ which featured in the soundtrack for ‘Despicable Me 2’ is currently number one in the Official UK Singles Chart.
The single has also been nominated for an Oscar and in the UK it looks set to pass the half a million sales mark this Sunday.
