It’s been revealed today that former Upstairs Downstairs star Keeley Hawes has signed up to appear in a new Mitchell and Webb BBC2 comedy drama, Our Men.

She’s set to play the role of Jennifer, the long-suffering wife of British ambassador Keith Davies, who’s played by David Mitchell. The show focuses on his posting to the fictional country of Tazbekistan.

Mitchell’s writing partner Robert Webb will play the diplomat’s right-hand man, Deputy Head of Mission Neil Tilly.

The show will also star Monroe actress Susan Lynch and Rev star Tom Hollander, who plays the role of Prince Mark, a “minor member” of the Royal family who’s on a mission to secure an important oil contract for Britain.

The series is currently in production on location in Britain and Turkey. It’s expected to air later this year.

The Radio Times reports that additional members of the ensemble cast include Yigal Naor (House of Saddam) as Karzak, the president of Tazbekistan, and Susan Lynch, Amara Karan and Shirvani Ghai, who together make up the core of the embassy staff. Natalia Tena (Harry Potter, Game of Thrones) will portray Tanya – Neil’s Tazbek girlfriend – and Debbie Chazen (The Smoking Room) will appear as the embassy housekeeper, Ludmilla.

Other actors who are confirmed to guest star are Michael Smiley (Ripper Street) as Jackson, a Foreign Office vetting officer, and Elliot Cowan (Lost in Austen) who will appear as Stephen Pembridge – a pompous actor who jets in for Tazbekistan’s Best of British Festival.
