Vampire Diaries boss Julie Plec has revealed that there will be a bit of a jump between the end of season two of the popular TV drama and the start of season three.
The show will return this Fall as central character Elena is celebrating her 18th birthday and unsurprisingly, the celebration won’t go as planned and some supernatural crisis will ruin the bash.
The executive producer told TV Guide:
“Our first episode is Elena’s 18th birthday.”
“There will be a small time jump as we celebrate Elena’s birthday. But as is the pattern in Mystic Falls, the event never reaches its climax.”
However, Elena’s coming of age will be a good thing for her and her younger brother, as after their aunt Jenna’s death, the pair will no longer need another guardian, as the doppelgänger will now technically be an adult. Plec added:
“Elena and Jeremy technically don’t need a parent living in their house. She will be taking care of herself.”
Despite the fact that Elena has always considered Stefan to be her true love, fans will be glad to know that this season, the brunette beauty will struggle even more with her animal attraction to his elder brother Damon.
“Over the course of the season, Elena will be struggling with a deep, deep attraction toward Damon. That’s going to be a big problem for her.”
Season 3 of “The Vampire Diaries” is only two months away and will première on CW on Thursday, September 15. Some of the show’s big names – including Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley, Ian Somerhalder, Candice Accola and Joseph Morgan – will make an appearance on a panel for the show at San Diego Comic Con on Saturday, July 23.
