AMC’s hit drama ‘The Walking Dead‘ is currently on its fourth season and the show came to a halt last night as it stopped for its midseason break.

With it’s twists and turns and unexpected deaths the show was definitely a hit for anyone I’ve spoken to throughout today – without revealing any spoilers.

While ‘The Walking Dead’ was received well by social network sites the actual viewing figures for the show were incredible.

The episode which was titled “Too Far Gone” managed to pull in a total of 12.1 million viewers and 7.7 million of those were adults from the 18-49 demographic.

AMC have also revealed today that the second half of the fourth season will air at 9pm on the 9th of February 2014 and will be followed by an episode of ‘Talking Dead’ at 10pm straight after the show.

‘The Walking Dead’ is still the #1 show on all TV networks for at least the 18-49 demographic and in the history of cable television it remains the highest rated series.

Looking at the fourth season the first eight episodes managed to pull in an average of 13 million viewers with 8.4 million of those accounting for adults aged 18-49.

Charlie Collier – the president of AMC commented on the success and said: “We couldn’t be happier that audiences are continuing to respond in ever-larger numbers to the outstanding work of this amazingly talented team.”

“We’re only at the mid-point of this fourth season, but I know I speak for the entire cast and crew in Atlanta when I say thank you to the fans for joining in our passion for these characters and their journey.”

With most TV shows nowadays social media play a big part in both the shows delivery and for the viewer. Most shows these days will display a hashtag for use on social networking when the show begins.

According to Nielsen SocialGuide on Twitter last night ‘The Walking Dead’ midseason finale was the #1 show with 880,450 related tweets throughout the show from 391,210 unique users. These generated a total of 43.9 million impressions.

Hashtags also played a major part in social media last night relating to various events that happened throughout the episode – which we won’t get into as we don’t wish to spoil it for anyone.
