Weeds Series Three: With Mary-Kate Olsen and Matthew Modine

The award-winning comedy drama WEEDS returns to Sky One for a third season of dark humour on Sunday 3 February at 10:00pm. Picking up from the season two cliff-hanger which saw mum turned pot dealer Nancy Botwin (Golden Globe® and Emmy® winner Mary-Louise Parker, West Wing, Fried Green Tomatoes) being held at gun point by rival dealer U-Turn (Page Kennedy, Desperate Housewives, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation) and his gang, as they demanded the weed they were owed. Trouble was, Nancy eldest son Silas (Hunter Parrish) had the stash and he had just been arrested…
As this season kicks off, Nancy is forced to repay her debt to U-Turn, which leads her down a new path, as series executive producer and writer Jenji Kohan explains. “Nancy is embracing her criminal life and on a certain level she likes it. She’s an adrenaline junkie. She’s no longer a housewife who’s dabbling, she’s saying, ‘I’m a dealer’.”
This season a new neighbouring town, Majestic, is introduced as a rival community wanting to build a sewage pipe through Agrestic, bringing with it crooked developer Sullivan Groff (guest star Matthew Modine, Full Metal Jacket, Birdy). Thanks to Celia’s (Elizabeth Perkins, Big, About Last Night) dodgy council shenanigans, the two towns will eventually be merged.
The season two finale saw Shane (Alexander Gould) run away from home, but on returning to Agrestic, his behaviour continues to become more bizarre and at times disturbing. Plus, Andy (Justin Kirk) is forced into the Army despite being two toes down and later becomes involved in the porn industry. Look out for his Phantom of the Opera inspired role in episode eight.
Teen icon Mary-Kate Olsen (New York Minute) guest stars for ten episodes as Tara Lindman, a sly Christian girl new to the neighbourhood, who becomes Silas’ latest girlfriend and Nancy’s top seller. Other guest stars this season include Carrie Fisher and Zooey Deschanel. Plus, Randy Newman, Billy Bob Thornton, Linkin Park and Donovan all lend their vocals to the opening theme, Little Boxes.
