Wendy Richards Discusses Eastenders Departure

Wendy Richards has revealed why she decided to leave BBC One soap, Eastenders in 2006. Wendy has admitted to being unhappy with her storylines and with the direction in which the writers were taking her character, Pauline Fowler.

“Pauline remarrying was wrong. Some women never remarry. My mother never remarried after Daddy died. I always had it in my heart that Arthur was Pauline’s husband and that was that,” she told the Daily Telegraph.

“I left because I wasn’t happy. Also, I couldn’t believe in what they wanted me to do and unless I can find some truth in what I am doing, I cannot play it.”

Richard added that her best days on the soap were when she was working with Bill Treacher, who played husband Arthur.

“Bill and I had some wonderful storylines and Bill was bloody good to work with and we came across well on the screen, we really did,” she said.
