What’s On TV Tonight ~ Friday 26th September
It’s Friday! Yay! The weekend begins here and there’s a great line-up on telly tonight so get a glass of wine – or a bottle in your case… we know what Unreality Primetime readers are like – a takeaway and sit back and let your goggle box entertain you. Here’s the best of tonight’s telly…
The Real Monarch of the Glen, BBC2, 7pm ~ This series follows the real life trials and tribulations of running a country estate. Summer should be the busiest time of the year at Alladale, but the shooting season’s over and the Highland Safaris have been abandoned. Paul meets with the Alladale trustees to discuss how they can cut costs while Chris makes an unpleasant discovery about the pigs. Is there any other kind where pigs are concerned? Plus, outdoor enthusiast Cameron McNeish doesn’t approve of the five-mile fence on the estate. Some lovely scenery in this programme too.
Emmerdale, ITV1, 7pm ~ Tonight, Lily gets a shock when Peter turns up out of the blue but she’s upset that she can’t help him. She tells him to ask Edna for some money but he refuses. Elsewhere, Donna’s sick of Marlon’s fussing and Danielle does her best to stay at the Dingles.
Will & Grace, Living TV, 7pm ~ A Moveable Feast, Part 1: If real or fictional country estate sagas aren’t your thang, then you may enjoy this two-part edition of what is one of my favourite shows. Will and Grace want a family-free Thanksgiving but Grace’s mother says she doesn’t want to be alone, Karen wants to see Stan, Jack’s step-dad wants to meet Elliott and Rosario’s eaten nearly all the turkey. Part two is at 7.30pm.
Coronation Street, IYV1, 7.30pm ~ There’s two episodes tonight and in the first, Tony takes Rosie out to lunch in a bid to make amends for letting her down, but he’s no idea what she’s really got planned. Harry delivers a surprise of his own to Dan and Janice and Leanne are getting nervous as they keep their eyes on the bogus bank account. Carla amuses herself by winding Liam up but she’d best make the most of it given he’s not going to be around for long! Perhaps he should watch the next programme…
Will Wars: Tonight, ITV1, 8pm ~ Fiona Foster looks at why making a legal binding will is more important than ever. The increasingly complex family structures in today’s society can lead to feuds and families torn apart over inheritances, as Fiona discovers when she talks to some people who’ve experienced this first hand.
Eastenders, BBC1, 8pm ~ The regional manager drops in at the Minute Mart, catching Yolande on the hop. Bradley and Stacey are back from their break and Tony’s forced to make a decision about his relationship with Whitney. Meanwhile, Denise goes on a date but it proves to be a washout. Maybe it’s in the launderette… everything else happens in there.
DIY SOS, BBC1, 8.30pm ~ Nick Knowles and the DIY SOS team are in Upchurch, Kent, with Neil and Leslie Sheppard who really, really need their help! Neil was digging the footings for an extension last year but he dug too far and the front of the house fell down! He’s worked non-stop since to get four walls up but while he’s doing that, the family has to live apart. So, can the team and their designer Julia Kendell come up with a fresh and stylish kitchen in just five days? I bet they can but is there a solid wall to attach it to??
Wire in the Blood, ITV1, 9pm ~ Falls the Shadow (Part 1): Well, yet again, several of Bradfield’s seemingly millions of prostitutes are murdered. The ladies of the night are picked up in the red light district, beaten to death then dumped on wasteland. Enter forensic psychologist Dr Tony Hill, but he’s a man with problems of his own; when he’s at a conference on experimental psychology, one of his colleagues meets an exceptionally gruesome end – you may need to watch from the safety of behind your sofa – and it soon becomes clear that a demented nutter has it in for female psychologists. The killer leaves quotes from Nietzsche at his crime scenes and Tony must try to interpret their meaning. All in a day’s work for Bradfield’s finest.
I wonder why anyone lives there! It’s a bit like Midsomer; property prices must be on the floor round their way.
Ugly Betty, Channel 4, 9pm ~ Twenty Four Candles: It’s Betty’s 24th birthday and she’s looking forward to a wonderful weekend with Henry but the arrival of a heavily pregnant Charlie ruins all her plans. Meanwhile, Wilhelmina plots against Daniel’s relationship with Renee by planting seeds of doubt about her sister’s mysterious past.
Team America: World Police, Film Four, 9pm ~ If like me you love the sometimes breathstoppingly outrageous humour of South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, then you don’t want to miss this film. It was filmed ‘Thunderbirds’ styly and follows the super-all-American team as they tackle global terrorism and
the ultra-liberal ‘Film Actors Guild’ or FAGs. There are also swipes at Broadway musicals including the ever-popular number “Everyone Has Aids”. Be warned, it contains violence, swearing and puppet sex – awesome.
Russell Brand Live, Channel 4, 10pm ~ A chance to enjoy the controversial comedian’s stand-up show which was filmed in London during his sell-out 2006 tour. He’s a ‘marmite’ sort of comedian and if you fall into the ‘love him’ category, you won’t want to miss this one.
Dave Gilmour: Gdansk Diary, BBC4, 10.10pm ~ The Pink Floyd front-man played a unique concert in the Gdansk shipyard in August, 2006. The film portrays the contextual drama of the urban landscape of the shipyard and shows Gilmour meeting Lech Walesa, the former Polish president and co-founder of Solidarity, as they lay a wreath at the Monument to the Fallen Workers at the shipyards. It’s all a bit sombre but there’s some awesome music.
This programme is followed by The Pink Floyd Story: Which One’s Pink? 10.40pm. Forty years after the band released their debut album, ‘Piper At The Gates Of Dawn’, Pink Floyd are still one of the biggest names in music. This film features archive footage, some of which has rarely – or never – been seen, as well as original interviews with the then four surviving members of Pink Floyd, David Gilmour, Roger Waters, Richard Wright and Nick Mason. Richard Wright died of cancer earlier this month.
Al Murray’s Happy Hour, ITV1, 10pm ~ The irreverent Pub Landlord chats with three guests from the world of sport and entertainment in his own unique fashion. His guests tonight include Peter Andre and Dita Von Teese, Queen of Burlesque. Music tonight’s supplied by The Kooks.
Phew! What a full night’s top telly! I wish I had Sky+…
Have a great Friday!
