What’s On TV Tonight ~ Monday 20th October
Back to work again today but fear not, there’s plenty on TV tonight to console yourself with!
Here are our recommendations for tonight’s viewing…
Legends: The Chieftains, BBC2, 7pm ~ Profile of the band who helped to save Irish traditional music from disappearing and spread its popularity across the world over the last 45 years. Featuring interviews with the current band members and tributes from fans including Keith Richards, Sting, Elvis Costello, Sir James Galway and Andrea Corr.
Emmerdale, ITV1, 7pm ~ The villagers try to save the church, Andy prepares to leave hospital and Pearl fakes an interest in Russian literature in order to impress Turner.
Coronation Street, ITV1, 7.30pm ~ Details of Rosie’s terrifying ordeal are finally revealed while back on the street, Maria struggles to cope with Liam’s death and Sophie’s close to telling the truth about the postcard.
Violent Women: Tonight, ITV1, 8pm ~ With recent figures showing that close to 250 women are being arrested each day – and violent crimes by females are beginning to stretch police resources – this edition examines why women are becoming more violent and asks if their rage can be tamed.
Dispatches: The Truth About Your Energy Bill, Channel 4, 8pm ~ The average UK household gas and electricity bills have risen by nearly 40% this year so Deborah Davies examines why our charges are so high, whether changing suppliers can reduce them and the impact of Gordon Brown’s fuel package.
The Real Hustle, BBC3, 8.30pm ~ Tonight, the hustlers – Alexis Conran, Paul Wilson and Jessica Clement – try out yet more scams on members of the public which they film with hidden cameras. The hustlers demonstrate how lady luck is always on their side in a high stakes Harley Street poker game and Joanna Page is the victim who’s at the mercy of Jess in Celebrity Con Games.
Wired, ITV1, 9pm ~ The second episode in this three-part thriller which explores the high-risk world of bank fraud. Louise blames herself for Anna’s death and turns to Crawford for comfort and support but when she discovers he’s not what he seems, she finds herself becoming increasingly isolated and in serious danger.
Extraordinary Animals in the Womb, Channel 4, 9pm ~ This documentary explores foetal development in the wombs of animals. Some amazing filming and computer sequencing shows in fascinating detail how animals from wasps to sharks produce young.
Martina Cole’s Lady Killers, ITV3, 9pm ~ Amelia Dyer: Crime writer Martina Cole explores the lives of female serial killers re-examining evidence and providing a comprehensive portrait of the sociological backgrounds that may have moulded them. Tonight she examines life and crimes of the Victorian baby killer Amelia Dyer, who is thought to have killed more than four hundred infants over a span of thirty years.
Twister, Sky 1, 10pm ~ Bill Paxton stars as a TV weatherman who’s drawn back to his dangerous former profession as a storm chaser to help his estranged wife, Helen Hunt, place a tornado-measuring invention in the eye of a storm. There are some great effects in this film and we see cars, houses and even the odd farm animal spinning through the air!
The Dark Side of Fame with Piers Morgan, BBC1, 10.35pm ~ Bruce Jones: Piers Morgan talks to former Coronation Street actor Bruce Jones – who played Les Battersby in the Street – about his very public fall from grace and eventual departure from the famous cobbles. When Bruce landed the role of Les he couldn’t have been happier but a string of violent punch-ups and drink-driving incidents changed all that.
Real Crime: Killer on the Run, ITV1, 10.40pm ~ This documentary tells the story of American fugitive David Bieber, who in December 2004 was jailed for life for the brutal murder of PC Ian Broadhurst, and who tried to escape justice three years after he was imprisoned.
