What’s On TV Tonight ~ Monday 27th October
Finally, it’s here! Dead Set starts tonight and I can’t wait! I hope it’s going to be as good as its billing claims it is because I’ll be an unhappy camper otherwise. Anyway, here’s what else is on tonight…
Dragons’ Den: Outside The Den, BBC2, 7pm ~ Dragons’ Den: Theo Paphitis’ Story:
The first of five programmes giving an insight into the lives of the shrewd investors from the popular series. Theo Paphitis’ wife and children talk about their luxurious lifestyle, while the businessman reveals how a humble upbringing made him determined to forge a successful career. Plus, the progress of an entrepreneur who walked away from an offer made by the multi-millionaire.
Emmerdale, ITV1, 7pm ~ Donna’s horrified to learn that Shane knows about her fling with Ross and an emotional Jamie accuses Louise of having an affair. Elsewhere, Victoria searches for a work experience placement.
Coronation Street, IYV1, 7.30pm ~ A heartbroken Maria wonders how she’ll get through the day as she leaves for Liam’s funeral, and Carla breaks down and has to leave the church. Sally’s forced to miss the service altogether because the police have new information about Rosie. Dev confesses his infidelity to Prem, and Blanche eagerly looks forward to her French trip, while Becky’s elated to realise DC Hooch is unable to charge her. Second trip down the cobbles is at 8.30pm.
Autumnwatch, BBC2, 8pm ~ The new series starts tonight with Bill Oddie and Kate Humble exploring the seasonal wildlife of Brownsea Island in Dorset, including red squirrels, sika deer and birdlife on the lagoon. Simon King views the first of a series of autumnal mysteries, a fallow deer rut, and Gordon Buchanan braves storms to examine the fate of a grey seal colony on the Farne Islands.
Card Criminals Uncovered: Tonight, ITV1, 8pm ~ Morland Sanders presents this investigation into credit card fraud, setting a trap to find out how easy it is to catch would-be criminals who are intent on cloning cards. The reporter also asks how well police forces across the UK are equipped to deal with the threat.
Monkey Business, Nat Geo Wild, 8.30pm ~ At Monkey World in Dorset, the new animals are introduced to the other apes but orangutan Roro creates a few problems when she meets resident couple Gordon and Amy. This show provides a lovely insight into the daily lives of the primates at the centre that was founded by the late Jim Cronin.
Embarrassing Teenage Bodies, Channel 4, 9pm ~ Bodies Behaving Badly: New series in which Doctors help teenagers who are going through puberty, advising them on the best way to cope with the many body changes they’ll encounter. The show begins in Magaluf, discovering how teens are putting their long-term health in jeopardy with a heady mix of sun, sex and booze. Back in the UK, they meet an 18 year old mum battling weight gain, a 16 year old living in body-hair hell and a 19 year old who lacks bladder control. Continues tomorrow.
Spooks, BBC1, 9pm ~ New series. A British soldier is kidnapped by al-Qaida with the warning he’ll be killed unless Remembrance Day services are cancelled. Harry is reunited with his protégé Lucas North, who’s spent eight years in a Russian prison while another agent who was sent to that country is uncovered and must make a dangerous journey home. Continues tomorrow.
Wired, ITV1, 9pm ~ With the pressure from both the police and the criminal gang increasing, Louise hopes to have found an ally in Ben. Crawford breaks the news that Hugh has been found dead and Manesh puts the final phase of his plan into operation. Last in the series, starring Jodie Whittaker.
Dead Set, E4, 10pm ~ At last it begins! The first show features the catastrophic events that lead up to a group of people becoming besieged in a fictional Big Brother house as the outside world is overrun by zombies on eviction night. Written by Charlie Brooker and starring Davina McCall, Jaime Winstone and Andy Nyman. Continues tomorrow.
I Want My Dad Back, Channel 4, 10pm ~ Two teenage boys are reunited with their absentee fathers under the supervision of psychotherapist Professor Andrew Samuels. After the parents move in with their children, they hope to re-establish their relationships and discover what went wrong in the past. The sons and fathers then stay at an isolated activity centre and each dad aims to regain his offspring’s trust after a lifetime of letdowns. Moving and sad in places but an interesting film.
Forensic Casebook with Matthew Kelly, ITV1, 10.40pm ~ Fingerprints: I’m assuming this is the Matthew Kelly who’s a comedian and if so, it’s going to be a tad odd watching him present a serious forensics show, unless he’s got a number of one-liners and bad puns lined up? Anyway, this new series kicks off with Matthew looking at a number of British crimes and the techniques used to crack them. The first programme highlights the use of groundbreaking fingerprint evidence used both to identify a mutilated body and catch the killer.
That’s it for tonight’s TV picks; don’t forget to let us know what you thought about Dead Set!
