What’s On TV Tonight ~ Saturday 11th October
I’m really excited about tonight’s telly because it’s the beginning of the live rounds on X Factor! I just hope it doesn’t end up being delayed because right before it is England v Kazakhstan Live from 4.30pm. Still, at least it’s not clashing with Strictly!
Strictly Come Dancing, BBC1, 5.50pm ~ The battle of the dance-floor divas continues as the remaining seven female celebs and their professional partners perform either a rumba or a quickstep to stay on the show. They’ll be hoping to win over the judges and secure the viewers votes, while the men show off their skills in a group dance.
Celebrity Are You Smarter Than a Ten-Year-Old? Sky One, 6pm ~ Celebrity edition of the quiz show hosted by Noel Edmonds. Jane McDonald and John Culshaw are the celeb guests tonight who face a range of school-time teasers which will test their grey matter and more than likely humiliate them on national telly.
Merlin, BBC1, 7.05pm ~ The Poisoned Chalice: Bayard and the knights of the Western Isles arrive in Camelot for a banquet to celebrate the union of the two kingdoms. Nimueh poses as a serving girl and infiltrates the festivities with a view to seeking revenge on Merlin by poisoning him and sending him into a coma.
The X Factor, ITV1, 7.15pm ~ After weeks of auditions, two days of boot camp and make-or-break performances at the judges houses, the final 12 have been chosen; and now the competition really begins! The gorgeous Dermot O’Leary presents tonight’s two hour show as the hopefuls perform live on TV for the first time. The results show can be seen at 10pm
Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, UKTV Gold, 8pm ~ If you want to get away from wizards, singers and dancers, this film is your best option. Jim Carrey stars in the role of Ace which ensured his immediate fame. Ace is an eccentric but brilliant ex-cop who has set himself up as a private eye specialising in finding missing animals. The zany detective is called in to find a kidnapped dolphin - the mascot of a professional football team - and uncovers a plot involving high-level police corruption. Absolutely hilarious comedy that co-stars Courteney Cox. Alllllrighty then!
The Girl Who Came Back from the Dead, Sky 3, 8pm ~ This documentary follows the amazing story of Lucinda Cuevas, who refused to believe her 10-day-old daughter Delimar had died during a house fire. She spent six years determined to discover the truth about her child and it wasn’t until a chance sighting at a distant relative’s home that the police re-opened the investigation and made a shocking discovery.
Casualty, BBC1, 8.40pm ~ It looks like the old Dixie’s back when she bravely stands up to a mob, but she’s secretly still struggling to rebuild her confidence. Elsewhere, Abs refuses to go to Stacey’s funeral and his emotional state leads him to jump to conclusions about a patient. Adam spreads a rumour about Jordan and an unwelcome face returns.
Blue Peter at 50, BBC2, 8.40pm ~ Tribute to the world’s longest-running children’s TV show as it celebrates its 50th birthday. The show features a selection of archive clips from the past five decades and takes a look at the various elements that have contributed to its success. Animator Nick Park, rugby ace Johnny Wilkinson, Olympic ice champions Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean, and racing driver Lewis Hamilton talk about what the show meant to them as youngsters. Remember the advent thingy made of coat hangers? It wasn’t Christmas for me until that precarious creation went up!
The Most Annoying TV… We Hate to Love, BBC3, 9.15pm ~ This is an affectionate and light-hearted countdown of those TV shows and personalities that annoy and fascinate in equal measure. From the green night-vision of Britain’s Most Haunted and Gordon Ramsay’s swearing to Jade Goody’s thick and orange skin and the wholesale massacre of pop on TV.
CSI, Five, 9.30pm ~ Bull: The death of a professional bull-rider turns out to be far more complicated than it first seemed when the victim’s prostitute girlfriend is also killed in an apparent hit-and-run. The team discover a financial motive for the suspected homicides, but nothing is as it seems when a third person is shot dead at close range. Featuring appearances by music stars Jewel and the aptly named Shooter Jennings.
The X Factor Results, ITV1, 10pm ~ Dermot reveals the results of the first public vote of the series and the two acts with the lowest number of votes must perform again in the final showdown. Then, judges Simon Cowell, Cheryl Cole, Louis Walsh and Dannii Minogue decide who stays and who goes. Plus, last year’s winner Leon Jackson launches his new single.
Jeepers Creepers II, Film Four, 11.15pm ~ Horror sequel that’s good for a laugh – albeit unintentionally – which sees the horror events carrying on where the first entry left off. The sinister Creeper continues his murderous activities, determined to sate his bloodthirsty appetite before he goes to sleep for another 23 years. A coachload of squealing teenagers looks like the perfect place to start. Isn’t it always?
So that’s it for this Saturday but don’t forget to keep right up to date with what’s going on in the X Factor and Strictly on our forum.
