What’s On TV Tonight ~ Sunday 12th October
Work again tomorrow so make the most of this Sunday and indulge yourself in a few telly treats including some great nostalgic films, Peter Kay’s new series and some fascinating documentaries. My absolute highlight though is Fringe on Sky 1. Don’t miss it if you can humanly avoid it!
Here are out top telly tips for tonight…
Dr Dolittle 2, Channel 4, 6.25pm ~ Eddie Murphy reprises his role as the talented vet, this time aiming to prevent an important conservation site from falling into the hands of evil land developers and improve a bear’s love life in the process. Comedy sequel that is nowhere near as good as the original with Kevin Pollak and the voices of Steve Zahn, Lisa Kudrow and Isaac Hayes.
The American Future: A History, by Simon Schama, BBC2, 7pm ~ Simon Schama travels through America to dig deep into the conflicts of its history as a way to understand the country’s contemporary political situation. For One Night Only, ITV1, 7pm ~ Emma Bunton and Jimmy Tarbuck co-host the final edition of the variety show. Pink jets in from LA to perform her new single, So What, and Will Young sings his latest track, Changes. Speciality act the English Gents demonstrate their balancing skills, comedians Stewart Francis and John Bishop hope to raise a few chuckles and there’s a performance by West End actress Idina Menzel. Nope, I’ve never heard of her either…

Peter Kay stars, with Neil Fox, Pete Waterman and Nicki Chapman reprising their Pop Idol roles as the judges. The ‘results show’ is on at 10.15pm.
Deadliest Outback Predators: Austin Stevens’ Adventures, Five, 8pm ~ The absolutely mental Austin presents the last in the series of his adventures which tonight see him heading into the barren landscape of northern Australia in search of some of the world’s most dangerous reptiles. Among other hazards, he battles harsh terrain, high temperatures and monsoons in a bid to photograph the indigenous snakes and lizards before their habitat is destroyed by the growing numbers of cane toads.
Strictly Come Dancing, BBC1, 8.15pm ~ Results Show: Following last night’s performances of the rumba or the quickstep by the female celebrities, the two couples who received the lowest scores must dance again, after which judges Len Goodman, Arlene Phillips, Craig Revel Horwood and Bruno Tonioli decide who to eliminate from the contest.
Ghost, Five, 9pm ~ I love a good old weepy and this is one of the best. A murdered executive – played by Patrick Swayze – can’t move on to his heavenly rest until he’s found a way to help girlfriend Demi Moore bring his killer to justice. Co-stars Whoopi Goldberg in an Oscar-winning performance as the scatterbrained psychic who is the spirit’s voice. It’s a good laugh and it’ll make you cry; what more do you need for a Sunday night in?
A Touch of Frost, ITV1, 9pm ~ Mind Games: Tonight, Jack – David Jason – reopens an unsolved murder case when the remains of a 14-year-old girl, who went missing 20 years ago, are discovered on a nearby housing development. Meanwhile, the detectives investigate when a late-night prank results in the death of a local businessman.
Fringe, Sky 1, 9pm ~ The Same Old Story: Brand new sci-fi drama series from the makers of Lost. Her body was found drained of blood and cut in two but despite their best efforts, police failed to find a motive or culprit.
Graham Norton Uncut, BBC2, 11pm ~ Extended edition of the irreverent and hilarious talk show that tonight features interviews with Jennifer Saunders and Eighties icon Cyndi Lauper. The host shows off his unique brand of humour, providing a mix of comedy monologues, eccentric characters and previously unseen material. It’s way past my bedtime but I don’t want to miss this one!
