What’s On TV Tonight ~ Sunday 26th October
Tonight sees the start of Britannia High which if it doesn’t live up to all the hype is in danger of flopping horribly but I guess we’ll see tonight how it’s going to shape up. There’s also some great films on tonight and I’ll be watching Alive at 7pm and probably Saw II as well! Nothing like frightening yourself witless of a Sunday is there?
Britannia High, ITV1, 6.15pm ~ The much touted musical drama begins tonight following talented students at a performing arts school as they chase their dreams of stardom. As a group of youngsters arrives for the start of a new year, Danny falls for the charms of new girl Lauren, but she feels insecure alongside her confident fellow students and begins to wonder if she’s really cut out for stardom. Mark Benton stars as the school head, with Adam Garcia as dance mentor Stefan. Featuring original music by Gary Barlow and choreography by Arlene Phillips.
Alive, Five, 7pm ~ If you’re about to nip off to Benidorm for week’s Spanish sun, avoid this film! Otherwise, try to watch it if you’ve never seen it before; it’s a classic. A plane carrying a college rugby team smashes into a mountain in the Andes, leaving the survivors stranded in unbearably bleak conditions. As supplies dwindle, they’re faced with the horrifying prospect of eating their dead to ensure they make it through the ordeal. Harrowing fact-based drama which doesn’t make for easy viewing, especially the dramatic crash itself. Ethan Hawke, Vincent Spano and Josh Hamilton star.
Heartbeat, ITV1, 7.15pm ~ Mother of Invention: Carol tries to help struggling single mum Barbara while dealing with the news that a woman claiming to be her own mother has arrived in Aidensfield. The nurse is then taken aback when Janet has the idea of reuniting them. Meanwhile, Mason’s fears for Barbara are proved right after a shocking turn of events and Wetherby and Younger enlist Peggy to search for the chief constable’s missing dog.
Strictly Come Dancing, BBC1, 7.15pm ~ The gorgeous Enrique Iglesias performs Hero on the show tonight and following last night’s performances of the Viennese waltz and paso doble, the two couples who least impressed the voting public with their performances tackle their routines once again. Judges Len Goodman, Bruno Tonioli, Arlene Phillips and Craig Revel Horwood will then decide who to eliminate from the contest. I’m thinking it might be Andrew this week, bless him.
Little Dorrit, BBC1, 8pm ~ New adaptation of Charles Dickens novel sees wealthy Arthur Clennam returning to London after 15 years overseas. He sets about trying to discover if there’s a link between his father’s dying words and his mother’s servant Amy Dorrit. Matthew Macfadyen, Claire Foy, Freema Agyeman and Tom Courtenay star. Continues on Thursday.
A Touch of Frost, ITV1, 8.15pm ~ In the Public Interest: The naked bodies of three men are found placed in the shape of a triangle, leading Jack to suspect the work of a satanic cult. Meanwhile, press baron James Callum’s plans to make his mark on the local area are hindered by an investigation into his lover’s death in a houseboat fire and the suspicious demise of his former girlfriend may be the key to finding the killer. Starring David Jason, with Paul Shane. Last in the series.
Most Haunted Live: Village of the Damned, Living, 8pm ~ Yvette Fielding and the team continue their investigation in Denbigh, moving on to the area of the asylum that was once the nurses quarters, and tonight, they’re going to attempt something never before seen on TV as they try to locate one of the witches alleged to haunt the village. Eeeeek! Full on night-vision terror for another four hours!
The Conspiracy Files: 9/11 - The Truth Behind the Third Tower, BBC2, 9pm ~ On September 11, 2001 the World Trade Centre collapsed after a devastating terrorist attack. However, a third 47-storey building, apparently untouched by the hijacked planes, was also levelled seven hours after the twin towers. This programme investigates the circumstances that caused the seemingly unscathed structure to fall and looks at the findings of the official report. Update of the documentary broadcast in July this year which caused the conspiracy theorists to go into overdrive.
Fringe, Sky One, 9pm ~ The Arrival: The team is on the case of a mysterious cylinder unearthed from the middle of an explosion at a New York construction site – yet it’s completely undamaged. Meanwhile, Olivia finds a prospective correlation between a string of disturbing events. I’ve yet to see this series and I’m desperate to… I think the box set might be on my list to Father Christmas!
Fawlty Towers, GOLD, 9pm ~ A Touch of Class: Beleaguered and badgered Basil Fawlty tries to attract a better class of hotel clientele, but ends up being taken to the cleaners by the first seemingly upper-crust customer who checks in. Vintage comedy that’s as funny now as it ever was. Starring John Cleese, Prunella Scales and Andrew Sachs.
Saw II, Channel 4, 10pm ~ If you watched Saw on telly last night, you should watch this sequel which is as good as the first one. The sinister criminal ‘Jigsaw’ is preparing to mete out his deranged and sadistic form of justice on more hapless victims while, a cop is desperately searching for the madman and the gruesome prison holding his eight petrified strangers, but his miscalculations are throwing him off the scent.
Family Guy, BBC3, 10pm ~ Mother Tucker: The dopey Peter is devastated when his parents get a divorce, but then begins to warm to his mother’s newsreader boyfriend and reverts to being a child again. Meanwhile, Brian is offered his own radio show. Exceptionally funny animation which is followed by another episode.
Bones, Sky One, 10.10pm ~ The Crank in the Shaft: Tonight, Booth and Brennan try to identify the killer of an office manager whose dismembered body has been found in a lift shaft. Emily Deschanel and my personal pin-up, David Boreanaz.
One Foot in the Grave, GOLD, 10.40pm ~ The Worst Horror of All: You could do worse than to end your Sunday night spending time with the Meldrews who in this episode, try to broaden their cultural horizons with a visit to the BBC in the company of a comatose window-cleaner they think is Mrs Warboys’ cousin. Later, Victor tries to make a fresh start with a new job but soon blots his copybook with one of his outbursts.
Whatever you’re up to this chilly Sunday, have a good one and we’ll see you tomorrow. Don’t forget you can catch up on all the Strictly gossip – and loads of other shows too – in our forums.
