What’s On TV Tonight ~ Thursday 2nd October
As it’s going to be pretty chilly out tonight, I suggest you settle down for a good night in with the telly and again, we’re spoiled for choice in the 9pm slot, so you may need to Sky+ some of the programmes!
Emmerdale, ITV1, 7pm ~ Over in Yorkshire tonight, Marlon hopes to cheer Donna up by buying her a new dress and taking her to the police ball, but later, when he gets involved in a fight, she ends up leaving with Ross. Katie’s annoyed when she finds out that Nicola is working at Home Farm and Donald warns Anna against mixing business with pleasure.
James May’s Big Ideas: Come Fly with Me, BBC2, 7pm ~ Tonight, Top Gear presenter James May travels to the frozen wastes of Russia to pilot one of the best kept secrets of the Cold War. He then heads to the US to fly the world’s only flying car and in Japan, he watches a man struggle with his tiny chopper. He then returns to Sussex and turns himself into a human rocket… bless him.
Eastenders, BBC1, 7.30pm ~ On the Square tonight, Stacey agrees when Bradley suggests that they renew their wedding vows, but his excitement fades when he discovers the contraceptive pills in her bag. His day doesn’t improve when he later knocks Max to the floor in a fight. Christian insists that he and Ronnie go to her reunion after finding out why she’s been reluctant to attend and Dot tells Patrick to be honest with Yolande about the move.
CelebAir, ITV2, 8pm ~ Reality series in which a group of celebrities work for an airline, undertaking various tasks on the ground and in the air in the hope of becoming CelebAir’s star employee. The seven remaining celebs are put through their paces as they are faced with some of the most difficult passengers imaginable and their mentors decide to crack down.
The Bill, ITV1, 8pm ~ An Honour to Serve - Part Two: Gina’s last day at Sun Hill reaches a dramatic climax as manic stalker Jake Quinn holds Smithy and two schoolgirls at gunpoint. He refuses to talk to anyone except the woman he has been harassing while Callum and Rachel reconnoiter the scene and the Armed Response Unit is summoned. They all hope it will end peacefully but hearts sink when a shot rings out in the school.
My Shocking Story, Discovery Channel, 8pm ~ Half Man, Half Tree: If you missed this amazing documentary when it was on earlier in the year, catch up with it tonight as it follows the fascinating story of Dede, a man whose extraordinary skin condition is responsible for the tree bark-like structures growing from his body and protruding from his hands, feet and face.
Dana: The 8 Year Old Anorexic, Channel 4, 9pm ~ Another excellent documentary from Cutting Edge which follows eight-year-old Dana who, despite being a happy and self-assured child, stopped eating. She became obsessed with calories and exercise and her weight plummeted to the point that she had to be hospitalised. Her bewildered and desperate parents then had Dana admitted to the ‘Rhodes Farm’ clinic, which specialises in the treatment of young people with eating disorders. It’s a sad and worrying film that will doubtless unsettle the parents of young girls as one stark fact emerges; media pressures over low-fat diets and body image mean that many more young girls will need medical treatment for eating disorders.
Silent Witness, BBC1, 9pm ~ Part two of two, Safe: Leo tries to get information out of Levi, but it’s only after the youngster fails to go through with a stabbing that he runs away and begs for help, finally revealing all he knows. The police are still struggling to secure any concrete evidence against gang leader Keenan, who manages to evade them and continue his killing spree but just when all hope seems lost, the team makes a breakthrough.
Bones, Sky One, 9pm ~ The Man in the Outhouse: A partially decomposed body is found in an outhouse and identified as belonging to the host of a reality TV show. With the programme’s aim to catch adulterers in the act, Brennan and Booth find themselves with large pool of suspects to investigate and Booth discovers some interesting information about Brennan’s love life. Viewers have a choice of start times which is handy given there’s so many great shows on at 9pm!
The Graham Norton Show, BBC2, 10pm ~ New series of the hilarious talk show hosted by the queen of camp, Graham Norton. Tonight, Graham talks with Spinal Tap star Harry Shearer, who’s also renowned as a voice actor on The Simpsons. Plus, Eddie Izzard drops by after recently completing his stand-up comedy show ‘Stripped’, and there’s musical entertainment by Travis. I love Graham Norton; why they’ve put him in a 10pm slot on BBC2 I don’t know but I’d watch him anywhere he’s on!
The Royle Family, UKTV Gold, 10.20pm ~ Christening: This classic episode is well worth another viewing and has the hilarious sequence where Jim and Twiggy are dancing to a mambo tune. It’s the day of baby David’s christening and his dad Dave has grown a goatee, much to the amusement of everyone else, and Barbara wants her decorating finished. Twiggy’s got a new woman – Sally Lindsay, ex Corrie put owner Shelley – and Cheryl has a new set of scales.
Star Stories, Channel 4, 10.35pm ~ The Church of Scientology Presents: Being Tom Cruise – How Scientology Is in No Way Mental: This comedy show presents its version of Tom Cruise’s story, providing an insight into how he was introduced to Scientology after being hit on the head with a shovel by John Travolta, and the moment he and Nicole Kidman met. Intimate moments are also shared on the set of Stanley Kubrick’s Eyes Wide Shut.
That’s it for our telly picks today; have a great night!
