What’s On TV Tonight ~ Tuesday 23rd September

Tonight’s telly is a pretty good line-up with something for everyone, but I’m most looking forward to watching O Brother Where Art Thou? It’s a great film and I annoy my family no end by singing along – badly – to all the tracks in it!

Emmerdale, ITV1, 7pm ~ In tonight’s hour long dose of Yorkshire action, Debbie accepts Eli’s proposal but insists it’s a marriage of convenience. However their plans may soon run into trouble, as does Eli. David and Nicola go house hunting and Anna makes Nicola an offer she can’t refuse.

Will & Grace, Living TV, 7pm ~ This comedy starring Debra Messing and the gorgeous Eric McCormack is always worth seeing again and in tonight’s first episode, Will’s sick of Karen crying wolf and vows to ignore her but the FBI really have turned up this time and are asking Karen a lot of awkward questions about Stan. Meanwhile, Jack persuades Grace to accompany his son Elliot to a high-school dance.

In the second episode at 7.30pm, Will proves to be a talented actor which annoys Jack and Karen wants to get to leave her penthouse. I was hoping that Jack and Karen might have done a spin-off together as they are by far the funniest of the characters, but alas, it hasn’t happened.

Capuchins – The Monkey Puzzle, UKTV Documentary, 7pm ~ This fascinating documentary looks at the incredible capuchin monkey – the most intelligent monkeys in the world. Oddly, capuchins in captivity appear to be much cleverer than those in the wild and this programme studies capuchins that are capable of making knives and using poker counters in a money-like context. Footage from the jungles of Brazil shows wild capuchins using hammers and anvils.

Eastenders, BBC1, 7.30pm ~ Yolande tries to discover how many spoiled food items Patrick has sold, unaware that Dot is already suffering from food poisoning as a result of Patrick’s stupidity. Suzy and Phil worry about Max, Danielle is shocked when she discovers Stacey’s secret and Whitney takes a part-time job which angers Tony.

The Sex Education Show, Channel 4, 8pm ~ Anna Richardson hosts this controversial series which aims to tackle sexual ignorance and the Brits traditional reserve about anything sexual. Anna checks into a maternity unit in Chester to witness the realities of the delivery room and mum of four – and wife of Gordon Ramsay –Tana Ramsay describes her experiences of childbirth. The studio audience discuss the myths and pressures surrounding sex and a group of teens get a contraception demonstration. A whole football team take a fertility test and Anna investigates whether supposedly aphrodisiac foods really work.

Holby City, BBC1, 8pm ~ In tonight’s Casualty spin-off, a crisis with the twins sees Sam struggling to manage in her post-op care role while Maddy copes well with a busy AAU without Linden. She does however have a run-in with an awkward patient who’s taken a shine to Kyla while Daisha’s day goes from bad to worse when the father of her child lets her down.

The Day The Earth Was Born, Discovery Science, 8pm ~ Tonight’s programme is the first in a two-part documentary which traces the series of events that shaped our planet during the first hundred million years of its existence. It studies various theories and offers explanations as to how the earth developed and what may have happened if things had gone differently.

Leslie Ash: Face to Face, ITV1, 9pm ~ Tonight we hear the story of why Leslie Ash earned herself the unenviable nickname, Trout Pout. When she underwent a minor cosmetic procedure on her lips, what she thought would be minor plumping turned into a disfiguring horror story that blighted her career and made her the subject of ridicule. Now, her primary concern is in trying to expose the charlatans of cosmetic surgery and dispel some commonly held beliefs about it. Be warned, there’s some footage that, in the words of that old song, will ‘make you go ooooooooooo.’

Open All Hours, UKTV Gold, 9pm
~ A classic episode starring Ronnie Barker and David Jason in this sitcom about miserable and miserly shopkeeper Arkwright and his long suffering nephew, our GGGGG Granville. Arkwright gives Granville the task of making home-made firelighters, an essential ingredient being his prized disco shirt. Gentle and timeless comedy that’s well worth watching again.

Michael J. Fox, Biography, 9pm
~ Fans of Michael J Fox’s will enjoy this programme in which his life is documented from his early acting days and roles such as that of Marty in Back To The Future to the present day when the actor is stricken by Parkinson’s disease but bravely campaigning for research into a cure as well as struggling to make a comeback career.

CSI: NY, Five, 10pm
~ Playing with Matches: New York-based spin-off of the crime drama series about the work of crime scene investigators. Tonight the team investigate the death of a woman who seems to have drowned in a self-cleaning toilet – yeah, never trust anything that says it cleans itself, including your teenage kids – and are baffled when the DNA of an imprisoned man is found on her body. They must also identify a badly burned corpse.

O Brother Where Art Thou,? ITV4, 10pm
~ This excellent film starring George Clooney and Holly Hunter is not only very funny, it contains some excellent music too. Set in Mississippi during the Great Depression, it follows the story of wisecracking conman Ulysses Everett McGill who, along with his simple brother, tries to get back to his wife Penny – and a stash of hidden cash – after breaking out of prison. Along the way, the boys have many adventures and become the equivalent of pop stars.

The Secret Millionaire Changed My Life, Channel 4, 10pm ~ Special one-off episode of this popular programme in which six of the series’ wealthy benefactors go back to the locations of their secret missions to discover how the people they gave money to are getting on. Among those featured are Chek Whyte, who gave money to residents in Salford to save their homes from demolition, Emma Harrison, who provided money to a respite centre for disabled children, and Ben Way, who helped a youth club situated in Hackey’s notorious ‘murder mile’.

I always end up crying like a girl when I watch Secret Millionaire so I can only watch if the rest of my family are out, otherwise I’d never hear the end of it!

Have a super spiffy Tuesday and I’ll be back tomorrow!
