What’s On TV Tonight ~ Tuesday 7th October

It’s a good night on telly tonight, especially for crime dramas, cookery shows and my personal highlight, the start of Sunshine, a new comedy drama starring Steve Coogan.

Let’s take a look at what we recommend you have a squiz at…

Hairy Bikers Come Home, BBC2, 7pm ~ The hairy bikers travel to an area that they feel has been under-represented on cookery shows; the North of England. It was obviously filmed long before Jamie’s Ministry set up camp in Rotherham! Tonight, Cumbrian Dave shows Simon Mrs Green’s pie shop, and Simon takes Dave to Newcastle’s fish quay. They experience a proper Lancashire hotpot at Bury Market, chicken breast stuffed with Cumberland sausage on the Pennines and the ultimate fish pie. They also find time to try some fun at an ice rink and Dave in lurex doing an Abba tribute is a sight not to be missed!

Emmerdale, ITV1, 7pm ~ In tonight’s hour long episode, we see Jo telling Andy that she was never pregnant and as his fury erupts at his terrified wife, he falls and impales himself on a spike after chasing her into the barn. Elsewhere, Gennie suspects that Brenda is attracted to Bob and Anna’s attempt to get revenge on the King family suffers a setback.

Eastenders, BBC1, 7.30pm ~ Archie plays more flirty mind games with Suzy, but after Danielle tells Ronnie about her dad’s behaviour, he tries to keep Peggy on side. Meanwhile, Billy grapples with his guilt at Jase’s funeral and Jay breaks down while reading his dad’s eulogy. The bereaved boy then takes his frustrations out on Dawn. Elsewhere, Dot learns the truth about Bradley’s sudden wealth and Tony offers to take Whitney to the psychiatrist.

Twiggy’s Frock Exchange, BBC2, 8pm ~ New series in which the former supermodel – who still looks fabulous – is joined by Lauren Laverne and Grazia style director Paula Reed to bring the American ‘clothes swapping’ craze to British shores. Each week, a group of women are invited to the studio where they try to help each other give their wardrobes a new lease of life.

Curse of the Titanic: Revealed, Five, 8pm ~ Fascinating documentary examining the sinking of twin ships Titanic and Britannic, within four years of each other. A team of divers, led by Carl Spencer, examine the wreck of the Britannic in the Aegean Sea in a bid to determine if the two disasters were linked. Apart from a tear in the bow, the ship is completely intact, but to understand what really happened more than 90 years ago, the huge boiler rooms must be examined to rule out damage caused by a mine or torpedos. Some amazing underwater footage.

Coyote Ugly, ITV2, 8pm ~ A real feel-good film this that tells the story of a shy would-be songwriter who leaves her rural home and heads for the big city. Once there, she takes a job in a bustling New York bar but musical success could be just around the corner. There’s some really good music in this movie which stars Piper Perabo, Adam Garcia, Maria Bello, Izabella Miko and John Goodman.

Sunshine, BBC1, 9pm ~ New drama starring the brilliantly funny Steve Coogan as Bob ‘Bing’ Crosby. He’s a family man who’s locally renowned for his affable nature, but also known to be a compulsive gambler. As his habit begins to turn into an addiction, Bing struggles to keep control of his life, leading him to risk losing everything for one more flutter. Also starring Bernard Hill and Lisa Millett. Written by the creators of the hit comedy Early Doors, Craig Cash and Phil Mealey, who also co-wrote The Royle Family.

Jamie’s Ministry of Food, Channel 4, 9pm ~ The TV chef continues his campaign to improve the diets of the people of Rotherham, who aren’t all impressed by him or his efforts, according to recent press reports. Tonight, Jamie’s pupils struggle to apply their new cooking skills to their home lives and he attends a Rotherham United football match to show that even the most unlikely of people can take part in his culinary revolution. The show tonight includes a local miner who has never prepared a meal in his life. What can Jamie teach him?

Jack - A Soldier’s Story, BBC3, 9pm ~ One-off documentary in which reporter Ben Anderson highlights the plight of soldiers returning to everyday life in Army barracks after completing tours of duty. After witnessing the deaths of two of his comrades in Afghanistan, a 24-year-old lance corporal with an exemplary record returns to the UK for counselling. The effects of his harrowing experiences quickly take hold, and violent tendencies emerge, leaving his future career with the Grenadier Guards in jeopardy. A sad and touching – if damning – indictment of the British armed forces in this modern age.

Dawn Porter: Mail Order Bride, Channel 4, 10pm ~
The intrepid roving journalist Dawn visits Russia and Ukraine to investigate the ever-expanding Eastern European mail-order bride industry. With more than 4,000 men across the world using this unorthodox method of ‘matchmaking’ every year, Dawn immerses herself in the business to discover whether it truly focuses genuinely on matrimony and questions if it’s possible to find love in a foreign land in just a week.

CSI: NY, Five, 10pm ~ Right Next Door: Stella’s life is endangered when her apartment catches fire while her colleagues deal with another mystery when a dead body is discovered in the building. With Melina Kanakaredes, Carmine Giovinazzo and Vanessa Ferlito.

Prison Break, Sky 1, 10pm ~ Five the Hard Way
: In another cult-status crime drama, tonight’s episode see Michael encountering Gretchen in Los Angeles after T-Bag lures him, Bellick and Mahone into a trap. Sucre, Sara and Roland track down the next Scylla cardholder in Las Vegas, where they follow his big-money antics until it nearly puts the whole project at risk.

Have a great Tuesday!
