I hate some TV adverts with a passion…

Take for example the ads for sofa companies who tell us constantly that their sale ends Monday, but will this elusive Monday ever come or do they just end one sale every Monday and start another one on Tuesday?

Then there are the ads that shout at you, just in case you’re the village idiot. Remember Tony Scott of Cilit Bang notoriety? I wonder if he goes around at home going ‘I’M TONY SCOTT! WHERE’S MY SOCKS?’

High-Def TV, anyone?

The ads for high definition TVs are completely useless too, unless you happen to be watching the ads on a high-def TV. Does it not occur to them that our bog standard tellies won’t actually be able to show us how good a high definition picture is?

And the ads that are clearly dubbed get on my left one as well. One of them recently was for some kind of foot odour product and showed the camera going from one person to another and they say, ‘It’s the shoes’ and another says, ‘It’s the feet’. Quite obviously none of them were saying those words. I still dunno what they were actually saying.

The other kind that get on my wick are the ones that repeat themselves a gazillion times, just to be sure us dimwits get the message. Take for example confused.com – how many times must they say ‘I’m confused.com’ in one minute? About a hundred I reckon.

Then there’s the injury lawyers ads who try to justify their existence by claiming to put the universe back in karmic balance if you claim for that whiplash or trip you had at work… oh puhleeeeeze!

But here’s my biggest gripe; why is it that the BBC won’t have third party sponsorship – therefore we have to pay extortionate license fees – but they’re quite happy to advertise their own stuff? They advertise the books and videos that are related to BBC shows as well as other BBC channels and websites, but that’s ok, that’s allowed. Well I’d rather they just opened up to outside sponsorship and saved me over a £100 a year thanks!
