Last night, The X Factor USA crowned its third winner of the series and whilst Alex & Sierra may be riding on top, the ratings weren’t…
The ratings may well have been have been up but they were well below last year’s finale ratings, which isn’t a very good sign for the show.
The season three finale averaged a 1.7 rating in the key 18-49 adults demographic with a total of 6.2 million views between 8-10pm.
It was also the 18-49 leaders with its final two half-hours on Thursday, whilst the network itself won the night in the demo.
Whilst ratings may have bee up from the penultimate episode, the show was still down on the same episode last year by 45% in the demo score, which sat at 3.1. Overall, viewers were also down 36% from 9.7 million as well.
Simon Cowell seems adamant that the show will return for a fourth run next year but with the demo score falling way below the average 2.0 score throughout the series, will the network give it another chance?
If The X Factor does return, Simon Cowell has confirmed that he will be taking on a slightly different role on the show, which only adds to the ever mounting speculations that he may be returning to the British version of the show.
Elsewhere, Demi Lovato has confirmed that she will not be returning to the show next year as she would like to focus on her music.
Speaking on the red carpet of The X Factor last night, Demi confirmed to press and media: “I started the show being a singer and a musician, and so I’m going to go back to that.
“It’s been really great but I’m so excited for 2014. I’m going to dedicate it completely and entirely to music, touring and making a new album”.
Additionally, she told The Hollywood Reporter that she is going to miss her fellow female judges the most… but I reckon she will miss Mr. Cowell as well.
“Being able to sit next to Kelly [Rowland] and Paulina [Rubio] and see them twice a week, and also helping mentor the contestants,” she told the publication.
Cowell also spoke about Demi Lovato via his official Twitter account: “To avoid speculation. Because of her [Demi Lovato’s] tour next year it was unlikely she could do that and X factor.
“She and I have had our ups and downs but now consider her a true friend. The door will always be open. And thank you Demi. Simon.x
“As to what happens in the new year. Stay posted”.
