The X Factor USA: Demi Lovato looks set to jump the sinking ship…

Over the last few weeks we’ve heard that The X Factor USA is set to undergo some sort of major shakeup and according to reports doing the rounds, phase one may be underway before we know it.

It has been reported today that this season will be the last for Demi Lovato as she has no plans to return to the singing competition next year.

Lovato has appeared on the show as a judge for the past two seasons, but plans to focus more deeply on her music in the new year.

We’ve heard in the past from The X Factor UK judges that the show takes up so much of the year. Whilst it may only be on our screens for three months of the year, the judges of course attend the auditions earlier in the year, attend meetings, photoshoots and so on and so forth, so it is a hectic job.

A source close to the singer recently said: “she plans to spend next year completely focused on her music. She had a great run and a good time”.

Simon Cowell also recently spoke out about the show and some of the changes that may be made, starting with himself. Simon seems pretty certain that the show will return for a fourth season next year but he may be taking on a different role – which tells me he won’t be featuring as a judge.

There has been a lot of speculation recently that he could be coming back to the UK version of the show, which is also failing in the ratings.

“As to my role on it,” he said “I might have a different kind of role, we haven’t discussed that yet”.

Other changes seem to be about what the show “should look like” to set it out from the rest of the competition.

Cowell explained: “I think that we’re gonna have a very crowded marketplace. What we have with X Factor is a huge core fan base that loves the show, but we have got to be more than that.

“We’re in the middle of a conversation about this is what we think the show should look like, what the fans would like, so my role may change but I can’t say any more than that”.
